Hi, I'm getting my first ever corn snake tomorrow, very excited! I have been haunting these boards for a couple of weeks, picking up lots of tips, so thanks everyone, and especially thanks for the sticky on faun setup, I think you'll all see some similarities :)

This is my new baby:

He/she is a 3 month old normal as far as I can tell

And my setup:

I hope I have thought of everything!

Hi there, welcome! That's a lovely looking snakey. Let us know your name ideas!

I can see a couple of wires that are probably thermoms, so I reckon you've probably already got a stat too :D

Do you have a hide over at the cool end too?

Thanks for the welcomes!

Yeah got a habistat mat stat connected to the mat, got the mat probe under the tank as it wouldn't fit through the holes, but got a thermometer probe in the tank underneath the warm end hide and am calibrating the stat off of that. Is 29C warm enough? It won't go much higher as my house isn't that warm. I also have another thermometer with a hygrometer at the cool end. The humidity is about 70%, is that too high? I think my house is a bit damp, so is there anything much I can do about that? It might be lower if it ever stops raining!

I've got a hide at each end, and a couple of plants in there for cover.

The shop i'm getting it from said it has just shed so hasn't been fed for about a week, will it be ok to wait a whole week to allow them to settle in without feeding? i.e. about 2 weeks with no feed? They also said they have been feeding twice a week, but it seems every 5 days is more advisable?

Not sure about a name yet! My shortlist is Cinnamon, Bracken, River, but not sure, i'm not great at naming, I once had a guinea pig called Guinea!

Thanks

River is a good name :) I like that. Cos he/she will flow like one when he/she slithers and it's a good unisex name.

Hi,

Got him/her home ok, settling in now, I have spotted it on the vines and in both of the hides so seems to be exploring!

The housemate vote is for Basil as the name, so looks like we will be testing that out for now!

Here is another pic:

And measuring:

Using snake measurer, it works out as about 37cm long, and according to my kitchen scales, 10grams, not sure how accurate that is, seems pretty tiny!

Thanks everyone

Beautiful little snakey Snakes vary in size so much but 10g and 37cm long sounds plausible to me.

29 is a tad high.. the recommendation is typically 28..

Humidity @ 70 might give you trouble long term, mainly with scale rot and respiratory infections. but I'm not 100% on that

I feed my yearling every 7-10 days.. as a youngster I fed him every 7.

I'd vote Brakken.
