Hi,

First post on here. Seems like a friendly forum and I've learned a lot so far reading the older posts.

I so want a corn snake (Narrowed down to Abbots Okeetee, Hypo or Sunkissed I think. Maybe Bloodred)

First question. How can I persuade my OH that she wants one too? Thing is I work on an Oil Rig for a fortnight at a time so it's gotta be as much her responsibility as mine.

Second question. Whats the deal with the 1.0.1 etc at the bottom of peoples sig's?

I remember when I first got ill and was bedbound for most of the time, I was 17. My dad conspired with his brothers to bring down from Yorshire a ****atiel (which is where they are from and used to breed birds). Only problem is my mum hates birds! They smuggled it into the garage when they first arrived and you could hear this bird squawking all through lunch. They kept saying how there must be an escaped pet somewhere in the garden. I didnt know anything about it until I walked into my bedroom later and there was Frankie in a beautiful cage, ready to keep me company while I was ill (we didnt know then I would still be ill 20 years later!). By the time mum found out there wasnt much she could do - cos she couldnt confiscate a present from a sick girl could she?!! She refused to come into my room ever again, but I took that as a bonus! xxx

Good luck Gaz, hopefully it'll work for you.......
Let us know the out come?!

My misses has agreed that I'm allowed a Beardie at home, once we have a bigger house! Now depending on your misses reaction, I may bring one home one day without her knowing (if I find the right one) I mean, she agreed in principle right?!

Love the responces guys lol

Good luck convincing the OH. The handling bit is definitely key, that's what worked for us, we went to a petting zoo that had a decent reptile section and they had some hatchlings. After seeing them, we were convinced and a week later we bought Eddie. Seriously women are softies... it's easy to convince us you just need to know what to use as leverage! lol

usually a massive bottle of champers, some choccies and a back rub.

*HINT HINT OH!*

east coast is very good, small but Jodie (the resident snake head) is very experienced. there is another shop near the beach which also sells exotic fish- not good at all- had tortoises and pygmy hedgehogs in together, and dead lizards left in with live ones. avoid at all costs and the main manny is also pretty agressive.

SB. There's no way she'll believe that.

I have a perfectly normal irrational fear of spiders.

My wife's the one that has to deal with spiders in the house as it is. LOL

SB. I see from the members map you're from just north of aberdeen. Can you recommend any local reptile shops?

Was thinking of trying to get the wife in to East Coast Exotics as they do handling sessions. Any good?

You can PM me if you don't want to slate any shops in public.

Hey now nothing wrong with a little bit of manipulation ....It works sometimes ....How you think i managed 7 snakes lol...Only joking
n/a Posted - 07/09/2009 : 11:12:51
And I was gonna show her this forum.

Not now you're giving out ideas like that. LOL

Only joking, I would make sure she had a login etc for this forum for the wealth of knowledge in case of problems.

Better get a bigger snake then.

A wee Corn snake wont manage a whole Chinchilla.

Mmmmm, maybe a python of some sort.

About 8 foot aught to do it. LOL

Psml. I forgot to tell him that if I were his wife, I'd succcumb gracefully, wait until he goes on the rig, then go out and get the chinchilla.

Classic!!! xxx

So "1.2.4 Corn snake" means 1 male corn, 2 females, and 3 unsexed.

Genius

Matty - 1.2.4 corn snakes = 7 corn snakes
1 male, 2 female, 3 unsexed = 6 corn snakes

Think that was what encouraged the 'genius' comment

Get the snake.

Suffer heroically through two weeks of complete silence ("I am not talking to you!") or two weeks of being treated as if you've just eaten the cat.

When it's time to go out to the rig, you say: "Honey, this snake will die if you don't take care of it." Fortunately, wives tend to succumb to this kind of pitch. You get back from the rig and find out you're not allowed anywhere near the snake because now it's considered hers ("I was the one who fed it, changed its water, looked after it!").

Worse comes to worse, can you take snakey out on the rig with you?

Any must have's?

Unfortunately I put my foot down when the OH wanted a chinchilla.

Chew skirting boards power cords etc. But gotta let them out daily.

And being the fairer sex she will always remember LOL.

I think I'm on a hiding to nothing.

Just had another look at East Coast Exotics web site and they do animal handling sessions.

I think if she got a hatchling in her mitts she might melt. Hope the little ****** doesn't bite though.

If it weren't for the infections / parasite issue I think my cat could keep up with the feeding of at least one adult snake. Mouse / vole every few days through the summer duely delivered to the bedroom whilst we're fast asleep. Then MEAOW at the top of his voice. I love heading out to the wheelie bin at dark o'clock with the casualties. LOL

Excellent method. Now you have to learn how to lie convincingly.

As far as I can see Piers that is 100% correct
