Hey guys,

When ever I mention I have a snake, I always get told the same daft story. I'm sure quiet a few of you probably already know the one I mean already! Its always told by someone who says it was their friend and they always tell it with such morbid conviction that it must be true! (haha!) It goes like this:

"My friend once had a snake that wasn't eating and it kept getting out. They kept on waking up to find it stretched out beside them in bed, so they took it to the vet and the vet told them they should put it down because it was sizing them up....." PERLEASE!!!

Do you guys ever get that? Theres got to be some pretty good replies to tease people back about that! i.e like actually its more interested in devouring your soul

I got chatting to some guy on my lunch break yesterday, told him about my snakes, and sure enough "Yeahhhh, my friend had this boa, and it escaped........"

I laughed at him, much to my shame.

lol yep my brother, his wife & my mum's friend at work have all mentioned this!

No wonder some folk have a weird reaction when you tell them you have a snake & snakes have a bad reputation when there's this rubbish going around....

I feel really bad got told the story by a mate and told him it wasn't true. But then told him I nearly lost my arm to my cornsnakes just to shut him up. Unfortunately he still doesn't believe that I was winding him up. Always thought he was a bit thick. Lol

Yup, had that quite a few times now. Just shows how little some people know about snakes. And physiology.

I always tell them the same thing. That a snake is physically incapable of eating an adult human because of the shape of their shoulders. Yes, even a huge snake *sigh*
They then normally follow with 'but I saw a program on telly where a huge snake ate a hippo!'. Yeeeeah, and? That's not a human shape. Besides, I've never seen a corn snake that big

I almost always get some variation on 'ugg... why?'

cracks me up :D My friend tells me everytime he sees me, so I tell him it happens because Tess (the snake) can't believe your shorter than her!

Ah yes, my friends new bloke told me the story, and warned me about my "highly poisonous" corn snake...

Hahaha! EVERY time someone new comes round and sees my snakes....
The worst was when my college tutor told the story, genuinely believing it (which in turn made me question the quality of the animal course she was teaching lol!)

People ALWAYS tell me that. I wonder why people believe it. Do people actually think a snake is going to lay down besides a prey to size it up before striking? The prey will be LONG gone...

Yep heard it a million times
