My corn literally never comes out of her hide, she used to but doesnt anymore (unless im missing it which is unlikely)...

shes not scared or threatened by me as shes very relaxed and friendly when i hold her - she even drinks from my hand.. really lovable and playful wen out, its just that for the last couple of weeks she never comes out of her own accord...

is there anything i should be doing?

Your not the first, you wont be the last so don't worry. At least you have the correct info now to get her all set up safely and correctly.

The shop I bought my first corn from didn't mention a stat would be needed but I joined this forum about 6 weeks before I bought him and discovered straight away that a stat was a must have item.

thanks so much... feel really bad on her now that i didnt hav this before =( .. the guys in the shop never said i needed this

Dont feel bad. You often find that the shops give out dodgy advice sometimes. Sometimes its down to bad training, other times its the shop assisstants have been told to sell as much as they can etc even if sometimes things are not needed.

(it will all make sense when you have the stuff in front of you lol)

Doesn't matter where you get it from, you need a thermostat asap. Also ideally a digital probe thermometer.

I would turn off the mat and not feed the snake until you have the correct equipment and have your temps sorted.

Are you using a dial thermometer? If so it will be reading the ambient air temp, not the temp of the faun base where the snake will be touching. An un statted heatmat will reach temps as high as 40c, if not hotter.

ye its a dial thermometer..

I would suggest that you def need a heatmat stat for temp control and a digi thermometer to give accurate temp readings.

shes always stayin in the cool hide tho, so it doesnt seem to be the fact that shes to cold.. ill hav to get a thermometer asap, thanks =)
Ailsa Posted - 18/05/2011 : 10:27:53
The ideal temperature for you snake's vivarium is a temperature gradient of 21*C cool end (room temp roughly) and around 28-30°C warm end, roughly.

ok, thanks... what is the ideal temp for her then?
