i've found a nice 4ft viv with all the set up and also comes with 3ft and 4ft snake.

as a beginner i dont fancy looking after 2 large snakes but id like to get the set up and rehome the larger snake or resell for a small amount to give my dad some money back.

how easy is it to rehome a 4ft snake

i know i should leave them alone and i will do for a day or two.
having problems getting enough temp for them at moment, they have a heat mat which covers half of the viv with 2inches of aspen bedding ontop but the temp at the warm end wont get above 25deg c. they burrow under the bedding and sit directly on the heat mat, the mat to my hand is only warm and not uncortable ofr them.

I personally like to leave mine 3 days instead of the recommended 2 just to be on the safe side.
Plus with moving home recently they should be given some time to settle in too.
As hard as it is your best to give them absolutely no attention for a good few days (5-7) for the settling in period.

grats on your snakes dude! guess you are cohabiting them then? (sorry, i read the whole thread but seem to have missed a bit somewhere!) i got my corns in avery similar fashion to you and mine are doing great! just to let you know, i feed my little one (a female-maybe 4 ft but skinny) 2 med mice and my full grown male 2 large mice. both fortnightly. just thought that might help as a guide, corns put on weight fast but dont lose it easily so be careful not to overfeed! ;) good luck buddy!

Hi Cammy, best leave them 48 hours after a feed :)
cammy Posted - 07/02/2011 : 12:17:05
i'll leave them alone for 24hrs to digest their food, then i'll get some good photos of them.

Maybe when they are more adjusted to their new homes you can video or take pics ^^

Glad you enjoyed it. I think feeding time is one of the best parts of snake ownership.......unless you own a non eating Royal of course lol

Only time I've ever heard of feeding corns snakes rats is if they are under weight. If you feed them rats they are more likely to get fat. But feeding 3 mice a fortnight will probably have the same effect.

I would reduce to just 1 of the biggest suitable mouse possible every 14 days and monitor their weights, at their age they should be holding a steady body weight, at the moment its likely they are still gaining weight fast, too much for their frame to sustain and the result of that is a snake with a fat ass.

Just to sort of add/edit to my previous post, if they are happily eating mice then keep them on mice, my point with weaners was thats the only one I know of that size lol.
Not sure of the mouse equal to a weaner rat.
But I would suggest more regular perhaps less prey item offered each feed.
In my experience it's the best way.

lotabob Posted - 06/02/2011 : 17:18:58
Both look like normals to me. Good looking (blue) snakes.

I also agree with Stapey above, they are used to mice leave them on them.

I'd stick with 14 days then, just bigger food and not as many! It's nice that they are friendly though :) they may feel cold to you as your hand temprature maybe in the 30's which is normally colder than they are.

I wouldn't feed rat's, I'd stick to mice personally although there are some on here that do feed rats. With rats you have to feed less often normally, or feed smaller rats.

Edit: The girl would end up being a pet, as nasty as it sounds no breeder would probably want her as she's a normal unless she's got some amazing hets.
cammy Posted - 06/02/2011 : 16:48:29
im still considering rehomeing the large female but will wait and see how they settle in first.
is a adult female of any value to a breeder or just as a pet.
