Posted - 31/12/2010 : 09:33:27 Is Patrick a ghost corn? I have had comments from a friend that he resembles a rat snake that they used to own. They say this because of his underbelly colouring and his eyes. His belly is white at the top of his body and then gets patches of dark colouring half way down becoming more and more the further down you go. His eyes are a greyish blue colour. I havent got any close ups of him at the moment as he can be temperamental. I thought he was a ghost corn because he has slight yellowing down his sides, didn't think rat snakes have this.
Having looked at some pics on google images I can see some resemblence to rat snake but then corns are related to rat snakes!! |

Posted - 03/01/2011 : 16:57:08 I stole this from another forum.
Cornsnakes, Pantherophis guttatus Ventrals - 203-240 Subcaudals - 47-76 Dorsals - 20-23 Dorals Blotches - 25-38 Tail & Dorsal Blotches - 34-47 Width of Dorsal blotches - 13-19 Length of Dorsal Blotch - 5-7
Great Plains Ratsnake, Pantherophis emoryi Ventrals - 197-236 Subcaudals - 58-83 Dorsals - 18-21 Dorals Blotches - More than 44 Tail & Dorsal Blotches - 48-65 Width of Dorsal blotches - 9-15 Length of Dorsal Blotch - 2.5-5.5
I think you will be in the middle, or towards great plains. |

Posted - 03/01/2011 : 16:54:56 sorry, not been on for a while. different species of rats have differing head scale counts, off the top of my head i dont know what they are, 23 rings a bell, but i dont know if thats corn or not corn. i will speak to a mate who has a better idea. |

Posted - 02/01/2011 : 09:24:16 Can anyone explain the head scale count? Can it be done using a previous shed? (hasn't shed for nearly 11 weeks so i'm keeping my fingers crossed anyday soon). |

Posted - 01/01/2011 : 16:21:32 Mikerichards what do you mean by a head scale count? Does a corn have a different amount of scales on its head to a rat snake? If so what number of scales is what and is there a certain area you count from and to? Or have I just made myself look a right idoit. I have to say I have never seen a rat snake up close and personal. Patrick is totaly different to my other corns in temperament and the way he acts and feels when I am brave enought to get him out. |

Posted - 31/12/2010 : 23:07:12 A cornsnake is not like a rat snake, it IS a ratsnake! it looks a little like a cross to me. the only real way to tell is a head scale count. |

Posted - 31/12/2010 : 15:51:11 looks like a corn to me but corns are part of the rat snake family and can easily breed with other rat snakes such as the blak/grey ratsnake, and the great plains rat snake. youll find if you was able to trace your corns family tree theres a high probability that theres one of those rat snakes in the blood line, and i have seen some very very bigger than average corn snakes in pet shops in the past and i believe that is the big rat snake species genetics coming out in em |

Posted - 31/12/2010 : 15:36:28 So can I take it that he is definitely a ghost corn then eeji? |

Posted - 31/12/2010 : 12:51:57 he's definitely not a grey ratsnake, he has a cornsnakes head pattern and pattern round the eyes. A grey rat also wouldn't have all the yellow. |

Posted - 31/12/2010 : 10:27:22 corn and rat snakes are part of the same family. If you get a better picture of its head we can help as they have different scales alignments |
