Hi again, just had May out for a bit and realised when she was sliding over my hand that there were definately some lumps in her belly as well as it looking rounded.
She was in a shared viv with Charlie at the pet shop and they are together again now (got them a week apart, and will be seperated within a week or two).
Are there any other signs to look for? She seems very happy to be handled and comes out of the viv without any fuss at all. |

well i will try n get my brain into gear n here goes there is a chance that she is gravid as she has been with a male (assuming they are defo male/female)
I find with Shikira that she will eat quite abit at the start and then she will stop eating, if you can feel bumps that might be the eggies norm feel them when she is far in. also she would be quite but end heavy so to speak. shikira when she is gravid goes quiet rarely see her then she will shed then be all over her viv looking for somewhere to lay her eggs (obv at this time a laying box will be needed)
also it will be a good idea to seperate the male n female asap as we dont wana stress her out. how old is she/ weight nd size ??
have you got a incubator set up or at hand just in case??
also try the search button, there's loads of info there ;) :D
anyway sorry thats prob not very helpful but i tried lol and im a lil brain dead :/ but someone will be along soon with a bit more help and more experience as ive only had experience with one snakie (being gravid, and both times ive been away typically, but im just goin by this year) good luck with it all anyways :D |

Shes over 3ft and around 420 grams. Not sure about age because the shop I got them off didn't know. So she is of a healthy breeding size and weight (I think).
They haven't been probed, and I know tail shape and size isn't totally accurate but they're tails are very definately what people say should be male and female in terms of shape and scale count.
She has been eating well (I have only had her 2 weeks) but has eaten 2 med mice, and been very active around her viv, however, when she isnt active she has a corner she curls up in (and doesnt use the hide).
Don't have an incubator but think I will order a few RUB's this morning to be ready just incase. She would shed around 10 days before laying won't she? (Assuming she is gravid). |

Hiya! yes, if she is gravid then the pre-lay shed comes about 7-10 days before laying.
She will probably go off her food soon if she's that gravid (that you can feel lumps) as it's hard to get a mouse past all that lot!
(as for scale count/tail length etc, not always accurate, everyone though Sprockett was a boy till Mike probed her for me!)
If yuo don't have an incubator, get one set up asap, as the longer it has to settle and get temps/humidity right, the better.
There are links and topics all about building one. It's very easy!.
You'll need to seperate them asap, as she'll get stressed if you leave them in together.
How many hides does she have?
I've got one in the cool end for her, and currently under a big hide in the warm end, I've got a tupperware box with a hole in the top with vermiculite inside as a lay box for her.
At some point she'll get very active, Sprockett just before laying last time spent 3-4 days trashing her viv, and rubbing herself against anything she could find. They turn into very restless, grumpy, hormonal females!!!

Dont worry, each snake is different, one of mine shed then laid the same day, another shed, then shed again, then laid, so its only really a guide, its not set in stone! |

Thanks for the info folks. Just trying to sort out where I can get a RUB and the male will be seperated tomorrow. Also getting some vermiculite? I think thats the right stuff to prepare a laying box. Any chance anyone could post a link to an incubator thread (sorry it seems lazy this is just all coming rather quickly and im also half way through my GCSE's =|) |

Oh and also in reply to what Mouse said, she has been pretty active and moving all her substrate all over the place, and it gets put in piles in certain parts of the viv. |

Just an update - Male will be seperated today, and put into a RUB until I have another viv for him.
Female seems happy although is very active, I have made a laying box and am getting the bits to make an incubator today hopefully.
Just have to wait and see how it goes from here now =] |

Cheers Kellog.
Just an update for everyone. Male is now seperated and happily living in his new RUB.
Female has a laybox and I will have an incubator prepared by the end of the weekend. |

Thanks so much for telling us Jay, it is a relief knowing the male is separated and you are all set for the female to lay.
I dont know how you are managing to do all this and make time for exams, revising and downtime! Well done for caring about your snakes enough to be going to so much effort as such a stressful time.

Luckily enough half term starts today, so even though I doubt she will be laying for at least a fortnight (haven't seen any signs of going into shed or going off her food yet) It gives me time to make sure everything is ready, gonna spend the bank holiday trying to make sure that the incubator is ready, temps are a little bit of an issue atm because I can't afford a thermostat so trying to find a way to get the temp down a little bit, it doesn't fluctuate too much where it is though, so hopefully I shall find a way XD |

Hi Mouse, No she seems to be getting more active however I can just see a hint of blue coming around the edges of her eyes so we may be expecting a shed by the end of the week. Will keep you updated :) |
