It's useless, I can recycle them though so if you send it to me..........
Seriously, that's a good little tank and as you said a good scrub and lid modification and you'd be good to go. Obviously depending on what rep and what size rep you decide to use will also let you know if it needs sides covering etc as well. |

im using it for a corn snake baby the baby will be a couple of months old so i think it might be a tad big to start with so it will come in handy when he grows |

depending on the reptile you put in there you will have to make a lid for it aswell. i used an old fish tank for monty but made my own lid but he escaped and i never will use a fish tank again for him or any snake but thats my point of view good luck with it and what a bargain |

air holes (big enough for air in, but small enough for no snake out), and some way of making sure the snake can't push it off. they're strong little things, and very clever when it comes to escaping.
I wouldn't use anything sticky, as if you snake does escape, it runs the risk of damaging itself on the glue.
Personally, I'd make a rope rig or something like that. (was gonna say bungee, but someone will point out it stretches.....) |

I have a possible way for you to make sure the lid is escape proof. I use it on 2 of my fishtank/vivs and have yet had an escape. I shall post piccys in a sec when I find my wire.
I have got these ebay link which I have one going around the front of hissles viv (left red mark) and the other is sideways around Hissles Viv (right hand red mark).
Both vivs were fishtanks, hissles still uses the original fish tank lid, but lashed down. Marshys has a bit of wood cut to size that's lashed down.
Sorry for poor piccys, the vivs aren't at home at the moment and all my lovely reps are a few miles from me and are still in the process of moving.
The box on top of hissles tank is not normally there. |

I got my straps from wilkos, £2.50 for a pair. When you get them try them on in different ways and then try to lift all parts of the lid to see if any section raises up. I run the rule that if I can get the tip of my finger in, then a snake can get out.
Get a small dremel/drill of some kind as well and put a few holes on each side of the lid for ventilation as well, otherwise you'll get condensation in there. I had mine set up ready for the snakes for as long as possible before I put the snakes in, I was even putting water in the water bowl to make sure it wouldn't get to humid. |

That's an issue I haven't come across I'm afraid as I have a thin layer of polystyrene under the vivs as well, so the straps also hold the polystyrene up tight against the heat mat, which in turn holds the heat mat against the viv. It can be an advantage as breaking a small amount of polystyrene out can leave a lovely small gap for the stat probe to go outside the viv without interfering with how the glass tank sits on something. Infact on marshys viv you can see the layer of polystyrene under the glass tank. |

I know nothing about using fish tanks for snakes, but Kehhlyr is the one to help Amy !
I just want to say how great it is that this lot just 'landed in your lap', hopefully saving you a few quid and allowing you to spend it on what is really important.
And that tree root is a fantastic shape (just make sure there are no sharp edges that your snake can scratch itself on).
