i'd run out of fuzzies (silly me for not checking earlier!) So i checked how big one of Maxwells mice were against him. Apparently they are large mice, but it wasnt much wider than Goonie.
Anyways, he didnt take it when i wiggled it at him, so i left it in his tank in a spare bowl. He's eaten it in the night
1) does the 48 hours handling thing go for bigger prey like this too? 2) should he go back to fuzzies or stick with mice? (maybe small mice) 3) ...and hoping he doesnt regurge, when will he need feeding again? he usually gets two fuzzies every week
You know that I am no expert Figs, but as far as I know the 48hrs digestion time is the same for whatever size of prey as long as the temp in the viv is correct (around 28oC)....it is the temp that is the most important factor at this time. Kellog is on jumbo mice and I only leave him for 48hrs after each feed before I handle him.
It sounds as though he he may have been ready for the mouse, having been on 2 fuzzies and the mouse not being much wider than him (maybe it was a small large mouse - if that makes sense ). If he doesnt regurge then it is probably time for him to move up to mice, just maybe drop down to the small mouse for a while so he can get used to the new shape/feel.
I feed Silvesta medium mice (2) and he is fed weekly as well, so I would suggest you keep to that schedule.
