Hi all just thought i would say hi too - although have asked a few questions already though lol. We have a new 10 month old Corn called Sookie - have posted a piccie on the photo section. she is having a good explore at this moment in time - she seems to sleep well in the day (not sure how i would know except she doesn't move when i go near lol) and now she is exploring her small box she does move back if she senses a movement. Other than that she seems happy enough for now - Hopefully first feed on Thursday when we will have had her a week and then forst hold Saturdayish - although still trying to figure out how to feed her - will do a search on here for best advice - anyway. Great site and looking forward to a great many years together xxx |

Welcome to the forum, as for how to feed her i personally would attempt to feed outside her faun in a plastic tub of somesort.
She should take it, but if she dosn't you could leave it in her faun overnight. Best to feed in the evening as this is when corns become active and in the wild would hunt. |

Sookie is gorgeous. I bet you're finding the whole no handling for a week really difficult, it's such a long time!!
When I had Sidney I left him for the week, then I had him out for a couple of short sessions of handling for two days before I fed him. Otherwise you have to wait another 48 hours after feeding before you can handle for the first time  !! Then I fed him in a RUB and I was so amazed because he did a 'strike and constrict' feed, first time I fed him It really won't hurt to wait a couple of days longer to feed and get some quality handling done first. It's really a case of your own personal preference. Do make sure you don't handle for 48 hours after a feed. I'm sure you wouldn't want a regurgitated meal  Anything you're not sure of, or can't find in the forum posts, just ask. There are lots of experts here who will help. Keep us informed of Sookie's progress..... |

hey and welcome
personally as it will be her first feed with you and you will both be nervous I'd feed her inside her current housing.. put some kitchen towel down over the substrate and put the pinkie on that and leave her to it.. it will save you the stress of trying to pick her up and her the stress of being in another new environment

Welcome Karen (and Sookie), it is great that you have joined us and it is good to say hi officially having already commented on a couple of your posts! This is a great forum with lots of experienced owners happy to give their advice and support. You also get lots of fun and friendship . I am not sure how much information you already know about corn snake keeping, so sorry if I am repeating information you already know...but it is better heard twice than not at all.
Am sure you have already browsed the TCS site and forum, and found that it provides great information. The best place to look is http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/corn_snake_care_sheet.htm, it has lots of information for new snake owners. Also read this topic on 'Your 1st Snake' http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4133
I am so glad you know the one-week rule (it is more of a guide than a rule but worth adhering too!)...not handling or feeding Sookie for the first week allows her to get over the stress of the move and for her to get used to the new smells and her new surroundings. You are rarely advised this in a lot of pet shops  but it is an important way of getting your snake to de-stress and feel safe with you. It is a hard week, very frustrating, but worth it for the snake's sake.
You will find that there is a large amount of conflicting information out there about corn keeping – on the internet, in books, etc. Even on here you will find that people have different opinions.....but at least you have a place to ask what you need to know and get the answers from experienced owners. Then you can decide what to do with what you are told.
Unfortunately many pet shops cannot be trusted with what they are telling you  . I know that I double check anything I am told on here. Remember that no question is regarded as a silly question  .....it is much better asked and answered, you will probably find others who want the info too! First place to look is in the top right hand corner of the screen where there is a search button...type in what you are worried about and see if you can find an answer. I know you can get swamped with different topics including what you are searching for, so it is a bit daunting but worth a look. If you cant find the answer you are looking for then dont hesitate to ask!
I keep my own 'Snake Diaries', noting things like weight, length, feeding dates and what you feed, shedding dates, health problems. I know it seems a bit over the top but it is actually really helpful keeping track of your snake's health - I even note when Kellog and Silvesta poo  !!
You have already complied with the unwritten forum rule - pics as soon as possible!
A warning - corn snakes are addictive.....and yes, the majority of us have stood up, said "hello my name is ****, I am addicted to corns........! And I am proud of it!" You have just started down that corn path so be warned!!
