as title really was just wondering what sort of size viv will be good for an adult sized corn.
I am looking to build a stack and I am in the design phase at the minute and would like to make it so he/she is comfortable. |

Well Dimika is around 22" and I'm looking to move her up to a 2ft viv soon-ish, so for a full-grown adult I'd say 2'3" - 3' Depending on length and sex etc. although there isn't too much difference between males and females. |

i have two adults both around the 4foot mark and they are in 3foot vivs and seem to be more than happy so i would say 3foot is ideal for adults |

For an adult corn a 3 foot viv is usually sufficient, especially with desent depth. I would probably make them around 36 x 18 x 18 But of course some corns do grow bigger than others, they average 4-5 foot i think but that is only an average and some will outgrow that.
How big is the corn you are looking to build the viv for? |

I am not actually looking at any corns yet but more looking about for future reference as I now understand why people say keeping corns is addictive lol
the sizes I had in my head was 36 x 18 x 18
the sort of stack I am looking at building is going to have 2 adult vivs and 2 or more smaller vivs for young ones |

I was told that for an average adult a 3ft viv is fine. This, I'm told is because corns are basically lazy and don't move about their vivs too much. As long as they get enough exercise out of the viv with the owner, or whoever, then 3ft should be ample. I'm sure if that's not right a more experienced member will correct me. |

Well it depends on the size of the snake and depth I would say. I'm planning on getting a 4ft by 1ft viv stack and the only reason why I'm getting that size is because if I had a 3ft tank with a bigger depth, I would have nowhere to put the tank in my house. The snakies that will go in them are around 5ft and a half and 4ft so there is quite a big size difference which makes the ideal size to find even harder. When building a stack you have to think about giving your bigger snakes enough room while not making it too big for the smaller ones which can be hard *_* 3 foot is fine I would think but it all depends on depth. Everyone seems to have like 18" or 2ft depth when they have a 3ft tank so *_* |

If you look at the perfecto range they do a viv of 3ft x 1ft x15inches for an adult corn. |

Viv requirements vary from snake to snake. 2 of my adults hatched at around the same time but would require totally different sized vivs. It all depends on how big they get. One of them would be comfortable in a 36x15x15, the other would need a 48x18x18.
Size of the snake is the key thing, but corns allegedly average out at about 4ft, so a 36x18x18 should be good for the AVERAGE adult corn. |

We have just got a 3ft x 2ft x 2ft Viv for Steve for when he is older, my question is what size heat mat would we need? and hubby is on about putting a shelf in the one corner, would we need to put a heat mat on that and would we need any other form of heating as looking at the Viv it looks quite big. Thanks, sorry for hijacking this thread too tylerma |

a 23 x 17 or a 17 x 17 would be ok, the shelf wouldn't need a heat mat on.
Why are you planning on putting a shelf in it? I would keep the space so i could get a nice branch or something to put in. |

Hi Danny, Thanks for that. Hubby thought it would be a nice idea to have a shelf in with a branch leading up to it and with plants hanging of it for Steve to hide in. Steve likes climbing and we often find him curled up on top of his hides so hence thought it would be a good idea to give him an extra shelf to play on. Considering he don't like Snakes he is enjoying helping build and sort his Viv..lol |

You could also make a removable mini table, there's a guide I've been looking at in the diy section for it. |

WOuld be good untill he gets a older and heavier, at which point i would consider removing it. You can get little climbing frame things, not sure where you'd get them, i think there for like chipmunks and stuff but anyway i think they could be a good idea, i was considering getting one for our vivs, not sure casper Reggie would use it but the other 2 like to climb. |

Sorry to hi-jack the thread but while were talking about climbing and shelves I have been eyeing this up http://www.petsathome.com/shop/repti-hammock-by-zoo-med-28072 I'm not sure if it would be suitable for snakes or not as I have no idea how much weight it could put up with. |

It looks like it uses suction cups, so would be ok in a glass tank or faun but no good in wooden vivs. Also not sure how much weight it would hold be io doubt it would be very much, maybe a snake upto around 250Grams would be ok. |

Hrm didn't think about the suction cups not sticking onto wood. I also guess that most adult snakes wouldn't be able to use it too. |

I just screwed through the sides of the viv to hold a shelf on in my vivs, but that is a permanant fixture, not something that can be moved easily. I haven't got a heatmat on the shelf, I have a larger heatmat for the bottom of the viv, it covers something that's about halfway between a 3rd and half the floor of the viv.
