Hi, All the heat mats seems to be 11" wide and my viv has 10.5" floor space if i got one of the 11" mats could i trim some of the excess plastic on the edges?
The floor space of the new viv measures in at 10.5" X 28.5" so i was looking at a Habistat Heat Mat either 11" x 11" or 11" x 17", which would be best? Thanks Ben |

Ideally you only want to cover a max of a thrid of the floor space, so an 11x11 would be the best. You could trim a small amount of the plastic off the edges, but you'd only be able to trim a max of 1-2mm, so you wouldn't gain much that would be useful. Trimming the mats is not recommended because trimmed edges aren't as strong as the existing edges, so if bubbling occurs near the trimmed edge, it could open the laminate on the mat up. |

Is it a wooden viv? If it is not then you can use the mat outside a glass/plastic one and doesnt matter hugely if there is a little extra around the outsides. If it is maybe look at the Ultratherm Heat Strips 17x6 inch - 10 Watts would cover a large snug corner.
Disclaimer:-I am new to snakes so maybe someone else can confirm before you buy.
ps I started writing before post above was posted. |

The link that lee gave you should be fine inside a wooden vivarium but if you don't want to take the chance then you could use a heat strip rather than a mat like karren said, these come in different sizes bu arn't as wide as the mats so will fit nicely in your vivarium. |

That one should be ok to go inside a wooden viv, I have microclimates inside mine. Provided it's powered by a stat then there will be no problems. |
