I'm going to be moving Alice from 2 fuzzies to 1 small mouse soon. The other day I decided to see if I could measure his girth to make sure the small mice werent going to be too big as the ones I'v ordered vary in size quite a bit. Anyway, it's got me thinking about the rule for mouse size. I'm sure that I have read that the mouse should be no bigger than 1 1/2 times the snakes girth but I'm pretty sure I have also seen it said that the mouse should be no more than 1 1/2 times it's width. So dumb question time - does it matter if you go by width or by girth? My maths isnt the greatest so I don't know if there is much difference.
i think it would be girth as if you go on the basis a mouse is pretty round like a snake the width not being similar to hight would be a wee bit wierd.
Yes Jo-and-Danny you were right to ignore mouth size in relation to food size- it has no real bearing when sizing food.
It should be upto a maximum of 1.5X the girth (in Maths terms) its just people normally refer to it as width as its more familiar. As sexychef said mice are quite round; so in terms of mass, the maths isn't as wide a gap as if they were flat!
