I have a Caramel corn who only really hides when he's in shed, and a Snow corn who hides all day before coming out at night. Each snake is different, so try not to be too concerned. |

Talking from limited experience, I wouldn't worry to much.
When I first got Kratos she would never use her hides, she was always out and about. After approximately 14 days she settled down and started to use her hides.
I asked the same question and was told for those first few days she was exploring her surroundings and once she gets bearings she would settle down. |

That's funny because Snickers has taken to burrowing in the cool end. I find her under the substrate in the mornings after she's been under her center hide when I go to bed. These little critters are funny.quote: Originally posted by newsnakekeeper

are the hides provided a suitable size? secluded and private? (ie. you can't see directly into the hide) are the hides in direct sunlight or any light at any time of the day? could all be factors in him not wanting to use them............... |

My sisters snake only rarely uses his hides. He just wanders around the tank and sits on his vine all day. |

Sorry to thread hijack....but is a question about hides !! GP's questions about why he might not be using hides got me thinking.... (always a bad thing !!)
Have just put in new hide for Silvesta, and no sign of him using it. Have put it on heat mat and old hide at cool end...and that is where he goes straight to and stays there. New hide is medium cave, small enough for him, in back corner. My concern is that he is due a feed on Friday and having had a regurge from him recently I am wondering whether I should swap hides round...put the hide he is used to onto the heatmat so he has the warmth to digest the meal...or should I just wait and see if he does start using his new one? I know he could be using it when I am not around (but I am around a lot and at very odd hours as you can see!) and you dont see him anywhere other than under his old hide.
