| hi i just wanted to introduce my self as i am new to the forum. i am new to snake keeping, but am really serious about doing it the right way, i would like to breed corns. but only when im ready for that, i would be very greatful for any advice any one has for me. i am 26years old, married and have a 3year old daughter how also loves my snakes, she loves to handle them with me. i have two 3year old corns, i was told one is male and one female of my sister who i got them off but im not convinced. they are currently housed together but i am going to split them asap. |

splitting them up is definately the right thing to do otherwise you may end up with babies sooner than planned!

welcome to the forum. If you're into breeding corns, you got more courage than I do. I'm happy just to have them for the pets they are.quote:

Welcome to the forum Philip! This is a great forum with lots of experienced owners happy to give their advice and support. You also get lots of fun and friendship  . You really have been thrown in at the deep end getting 2 snakes at once! I am not sure how much information you already know about corn snake keeping, so sorry if I am repeating information you already know...but it is better heard twice than not at all.
The forum provides great information. The best place to look is http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/corn_snake_care_sheet.htm, it has lots of information for new snake owners. Also read this topic on 'Your 1st Snake' http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4133

Planning on breeding is very exciting (and brave of you  ). It is good that you will do the research required before putting your corns back together - so that you can be sure that you are prepared for babies before they come unexpectedly (which may happen if they are not separated!)
Unfortunately with many pet shops you cannot trust what they are telling you  . Double check anything you have been told with us on here. Remember that no question is regarded as a silly question  .....it is much better asked and answered, you will probably find others who want the info too! First place to look is in the top right hand corner of the screen where there is a search button...type in what you are worried about and see if you can find an answer, if not then dont hesitate to ask!
When you got your snakes I hope you got as much info from your sister about them as possible....shedding history, feeding history etc. Start your own 'Snake Diaries', noting things like weight, length, feeding dates and what you feed, shedding dates, health problems. I know it seems a bit over the top but it is actually really helpful keeping track of your snake's health - I even note when Kellog and Silvesta poo  !!

Corn snakes are addictive.....and yes, the majority of us have stood up, said "hello my name is **** and I am addicted to corns........! And I am proud of it!" You have already started down that corn path with 2 and are already planning on breeding, so I think you are a lost cause !!!

hi thanks for the advice it is just want i was looking for i have some pics in the snake photo part so pleese take a look.
my friend is looking to buy two snakes he used to keep them years ago and is wanting to get back in to it, the pet shop he has been to said they had a male and female ready for him they are bro and sis and he was asking me if it is possible to breed them i said i did not have a clue but would ask you lot for advice on the matter,
