As long as it is half or under then you should be ok.

What have you got on the cold side? You say there is a controller for it, but what is it controlling?

Personally i just have a heat mat in the warm side and let the cold side stay at room temperature... which is about 20 - 22c in my room.

Ok, this may be the issue.

You say light, is it a normal white house bulb or a red bulb?

Both will produce heat and screw up the ambient temps. Corn snakes really do not need the lamp on as long as they are in a room that has natural light during the day so as to maintain a day night cycle.

Personally, if it were my setup and i wanted lighting on during the day i would get some LED strips from ebay. They give off no heat so will not mess up the temps in your viv.

In that case it shouldn't really be giving off too much heat. Although the timing does seem to indicate that it is the culprit, unless your central heating goes off at about the same time?

As for the repti-glo bulb, it is really not needed. Corn snakes do not need the UVB like lizards do... although at the same time it shouldn't harm them either. But it is an extra expense that you really don't have to keep up.

The only thing i can think to suggest is for you to leave the light off tomorrow and see if your temperatures are normal, then we can see if it is the bulb to blame.

Yes, it would if it is at that temperature for any prolonged period.

People keep their warm sides between 27 and 30 so it tells you just how warm it is. Snakes need a distinct difference between the cold and warm sides to thermoregulate so it would be harmful for them to not have that difference.

Am i correct in thinking that the vivarium is made of wood and that your heat mat is inside?

Also, your viv and heat mat sizes are a little confusing, is it possible that you could take a picture of the inside of the viv without substrate so we can see the size of the mat in relation to the viv?

Thanks, Ivan.

I am assuming your viv is setup like this though, am i right?

Grey being the unheated section, the black being the mat?

This pic is the same size as your viv and mat, just in pixels rather than mm.

Is that the approximate positioning of your mat and size in relation to the viv?
