Ok, This kinda sounds like an odd question...but... Ive been a horse owner for 12 years or so and when I was younger we had cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, and Ive also got a dog now (kinda sound like a 1 girl zoo!!) and my question is...

Do snakes need vitamin supplements?

And by snake- I mean Hatchling-(or adult snake...snake in general)

As Im (REALLY) hoping to get one tomorrow- and I know that horses need supplements- either "built" into their feed or a a salt/mineral lick block in the field stable...

So- does a "Pinky" have enough vit/mins for a snake?

Have just re-read and question even kinda sounds odd to me!

Sorry! And advice would be greatly appreciated!

xx

Some reptiles that require a source of uv light become deficient in certain vitamins without a perfect set up.

Corn snakes only require mice and water. If a snake isn't feeding or is recovering from illness then reptoboost can be useful in their water source as a pick me up.

As Gmac says, there is no need for a Corn Snake to have any vitamin supplements... however, females that are about to lay eggs can benefit from calcium supplements, and supplements after laying the eggs can benefit them too.

The only snakes i can think of that MAY (not too sure) need vitamin and calcium supplements are Garter Snakes because they eat worms and other equally odd things... also Opheodrys Aestivus and Opheodrys Vernalis because they eat bugs not mice.

As above -

Horse and ponies only need supplements because many lead a full or semi-stabled life, therefore not getting all the vitamins and minerals they would normally get in the wild from grazing on grass, bushes, trees and plants. Also, due to breeding for purpose, some horses need extra help to look their best under certain conditions eg: a thoroughbred on poor winter grazing.

Corns on the other hand drink water and eat rodents, and the rodents get all the vitamins and minerals they need from their own food, so the goodness gets passed up the food chain. A pinky and fresh water will be all your corn needs.

You must be very excited about getting your snake, any ideas which morph you want? x
