I heard that ripped up bits of damp kitchen roll are a good alternative to moss?

it definitely is brilliant stuff our tof loves it, I used to have it in her viv all the time but i never used to see her ! so now I only put it in with her for special occasions  lucky man having it free  |

Whats wrong with moss B.E is that my step mum doesn't want it in bags in the freezer. 
Verm, can you keep it dry, at room temp, and use when needed?
Anyone got a linky to a site that sells it, I've tried 888 can't find it!
