I am so sorry that you have joined our forum under these circumstances. You will find it is a great place with experienced owners willing to give their advice and support and help as much as possible.

Do you know how she got out? I know this sounds really silly but are you sure she has escaped? I am not sure what substrate you have but I know of one forum member who was convinced that her snake had escaped and then found it when she went to throw away the substrate in the viv!

It sounds like you are doing a lot of the necessary things required for trying to find an escaped mouse. Dont leave a pinky in a bottle trap for more than 24hrs...throw it away. Wait a few days and then try again. Well done with turning down all the heating in the house except for the room she is hopefully in. You could also put her heat mat on the floor, covered in a towel, in a corner or surrounded by pillows or with her hide on it....she will search for the extra heat. It means you should also check all the places in the house that emit heat, like behind the tv, the fridge, any hot pipes or boilers etc. One member's snake was found by his grandfather when he picked a towel out of the airing cupboard. You need to look high and low as they are amazing climbers, and look into places you dont think she could ever get to...any place she can squeeze her head into her body will follow. Another member found her snake in a box file on a shelf.

You need to put out a waterbowl as a snake can go a long time without food but needs water. It also means that you can see if the water level is dropping and therefore prove that she is in that room.

You can try sitting up through the night and put something like crunched up foil or wrapping paper around the edges of the room. This mean when the snake moves around and will keep to the sides you might hear the movement.

Please dont give up hope. As you have gathered a few of our members have lost snakes, some have been found immediately and others have taken weeks to turn up. One even showed up a month later sliding in the back door looking very healthy (the owner had wondered why her frog population was dwindling!).

I am sure others will also offer more advice and help....you will find her!

Welcome to the site Elizabeth, sorry it's under such desperate circumstances.

It sounds like you're doing all the right things and you may just have to wait and see. My Snow Daisey was recently missing for a month before turning up in Hubbys paperwork of all places. Remember when you're looking that Corns will go up as well as down and like small spaces, inside files speakers even computer towers are just a few of the places our members have found their snakes. Fingers crossed she turns up soon.

Hopefully when you do find her there shouldnt be any change in her temperament. Just to be on the safe side I would treat her as though you had just got her.....return her to your viv and leave her for a week to settle in, just changing water etc daily. This will give her time to calm down and settle back in. Then feed her (wait the needed 48hrs after a feed) and then you can start handling her again, just for very short periods to begin with. You will need to take it very slowly and be patient. I am so pleased that you are being positive about finding her.
(Please dont write all in capitals as some of us find it hard to read and it can be regarded as shouting, thanks)

Do any of your seats have holes in them it is possible the snake is in one of them.
One of my snakes escaped and was found 2 days later in the bathroom on a shelf.
Another was found on a shelf behind some books in the living room.

I meant to say in my last post casper is a very gentle placid snake always has been ,escaping as a hatchling didnt change her and her escapade last month for nearly 2 weeks aint changed her either shes still the same.so dont worry just because shes escaped wont change her temprament.

sorry to hear about your lost snake, but do not worry about her temperament changing, escaping is unlikely to do that

put a heatmat on the floor in a corner or somewhere where its quiet with a towel over it or something similar so that if she does find it she has somewhere warm and dark to hide,
check all the silly places, lucien was found in a towel by the oh's grandad after a shower so make sure you look in all the unobvious places.. particularly warm and dark places and those that are small
hope she turns up soon

Elizabeth - that is fantastic news. I am so pleased to hear that you have found her! That must be 3 weeks she was gone! Makes you wonder how long she has been in your boy's room? Maybe he needs to tidy up more often!!

Must admit to being glad you did not step on her, and I am sure you feel the same!!

Shows how amazingly tough corn snakes are and it is a relief to hear she is well...means she must have been getting water from somewhere.

I would advise you to return hr to her viv and then leave her for a week - like the one-week hands off period when you first got her. Sounds like she can wait a bit longer for a feed to let her readjust to her viv and your smell again before handling and feeding her.

Cant wait to see pics of her once she has settled back in and am so pleased she is properly 'home'!

Yay! After she did the great escape, don'tlet her do it again!!

Seriously though, I triple check i lock my boy's vivs every time. I always make sure I can see them everytime I go past their vivs too. whats she housed in? To prevent possible future escapes you could put some heavy books ontop of the lid if she's in a faun
