I've just been to the vet and had our rabbit, Fudge, put down. It's surprised me at how upset I am. To be honest, he was a pain in the bum - always trying to escape, didn't want to be handled etc but he had loads of character and I'll really miss him. Maybe it's guilt - I've never had to choose to have an animal's life ended before. My daughter was devasted but now seems OK and is being very logical about it all whereas I just keep on crying. I feel a bit stupid.

RIP Fudge.

I am so sorry to hear about Fudge Sammysnake. Losing a pet is never easy and when you have to have it put down it makes it even harder. I know when our old dog died a couple of years ago the kids were really upset for a couple of days and then just got on with life as though he had never been there....whereas I still miss him even now. Never feel silly for grieving for a pet, they are loved and cherished and will be missed.

Aw, so sorry to hear about your loss. Fudge was gorgeous.

Putting an animal down, whilst very difficult and distressing, is the last kindness a good owner can do for their beloved pet. It shows you are putting their welfare and happiness before your own.

Stay strong and remember him at his best. The memories will get easier with time, and you will understand that you have made a good decision. xx
