If you're using the bulb for heating then there is an obvious difference.
But if it's just for decoration, then it doesn't make many odds.

But still be aware that if it's decorative and you leave it on then you'll still need a guard.
I just have a standard bulb in my viv with the snakes, they don't have a guard, BUT I only turn mine on when I need to see clearly in there.
Aside from that they have no lights inside (atm).

I dont want it for heat as i have the heatmat for that , I have a normal white bulb that i use for every day spot checking but i dont mind changing it for a red bulb and also it wont be on for even 12hours , it will be on when im on the pc and when i get off it then thats when the light goes off.

Is the red light safe for romeo's eyes ? and how about a blue bulb also is that safe ?

The bulbs are safe, provided they don't come into contact with them when they're on.
Even if you just go to the loo, make a cup of tea, anything where you can't see the snake for a couple of minutes I'd turn the light off a few mins BEFORE you leave the room.

Hot bulbs can cause masses of damage to a snake.

If you are putting any type of bulb in with a snake even with a guard on it to protect the snake from the bulb just be aware that the guards also get extremely hot and the snake will burn. We have found that a UV lamp above the viv is ideal as it gives her the 12 hours light that she needs and we can see very clearly into the viv. The UV light container looks like one of those that you find above aquariums and very little if no heat comes from it. I would never use an ordinary bulb with a casing around it for fear of burning the snake.

it may be wise to also have the bulb on a stat - as a test i left a light on in the spare 15x30 viv, directly below it got to 50*c and the other end was quite hot as well after about an hour and half.

if you have a tub you can put your snake in temperery, i suggest you also test your viv for a couple of hours without snaky in
