They have a soft spot for me as well, whenever I walk barefooted around the flat, the carpet is lovely and soft.

Nice snake, but why put the heatmat on the wall? The snake wont get any use out of it.

i'm with matty on this one, and i know a little about JCPs
the bulb will be increasing the ambient temp as well as providing a basking spot, as it's a light-emitting bulb i'm guessing you turn it off at night? so heatmat on the floor or a ceramic bulb would be the best way to heat it over night. i'd also add more branches personally, so she has a warm branch and a cool branch to choose from

BTW she's nice

it was on the light emitting bulb but its now in infrared 31c in day 24-26 at night.

so if i put the mat underneith substrate could i then put a small bowl of water over the top to keep humidity up instead of having to spray a few times a day

If you now have a red blulb, I just wouldnt bother with the heatmat. If your struggling with humidity, just move the bowl closer to the bulb.

Is it under the heat bulb or the engery saving bulb? How are you measuring the humidity?
