My cat George it utterly fascinated by Bella and Luna, and when we go to bed he's automatically up there on top of Bella's viv having a good nosey. I think Bella's used to him but he freaks baby Luna out, and he's also causing some damage to the top of Bella viv; she's in one of those glass Perfecto things with a mesh lid and the mesh is starting to come away. (He's not fat!! But I don't thin they're built to take a full grown cat's weight landing on them four or five times a night...)

I've tried all the usual cat discipline (HAHA there's an oxymoron) methods and they've not worked. Daft question but do you reckon I could just put a towel over the vivs to hide them from view? It won't cause any problems heat or airflow wise?

Shutting the cats out isn't possible either. Well, not if I want any sleep that is...YOWLING and carpet ripping ensue if that happens, and it's not fair on Pixie who is so dim she's barely even registered the snakes' presence

My cat used to do the same thing to the frog tank.

Here's my 'cure':

Put a baking tray on top of the tank, that stopped the weight going on the mesh when the cat jumped on top.
When the cat leans over to have a look, it shifts all the weight onto the front of the baking tray and the cat and tray fall off.

You get a lot of noise and unfortunately disturbance to the animal in the viv, but it's only for a short time until the cat gets used to not going on top. So it should work out better for the snake in the long run.

Towel over vivs last night - George didn't jump up once Luna happily in her hide and not zooming about all over the place in panic

If you see it happening you could also try spraying George with water, just to reinforce that the top of the viv is not a place he should be - amazingly enough cats do learn, you just have to be persistent. Glad Luna has been getting a better, unstressed night sleep! xxx

Our cat Sophie doesn't bother with the snakes, but she does pester Oscar the budgie (understandable) and she bothers our gecko and tarantula when there are circkets in the vivs.

She has a thing about crickets (usually catches any escapees and plays with them) and she can't understand why she's not allowed the crickets in the vivs...

A spray gun works wonders! She was trained with a spray gun when she was a kitten and she's generally well behaved now.

She will still try and chance her luck occasionally, but a quick shake of the spray bottle is usually enough of a threat to make her shift!

The spray bottle was the first thing I tried. He stands and stares at it as I spray him in the face.

*sigh*

Towel has not deterred him after that first night though. Looks like I'm going to have to get better earplugs and say adieu to my lovely new landing carpet...

Lol daft cat! I'd try a little more with the spraying. Sometimes Sophie would stand there, not wanting to move, but if we kept spraying she'd move once the water penetrated the fur and got through to her skin!

We also sprayed her behind once, she hated that! Now the threat of "Wet Bum!" can make her move. Lol, it was sooo funny after we sprayed her behind, she tried to dry herself off by dragging her bum along the carpet (I can still see it now!) LMAO. Worth a try, but prepare to be in stitches laughing!

SO... last night he didn't bother with them at all and spent the whole night curled up in the crook of my knees... argh!

Yes, George is a very strange cat indeed. Pixie is as well, but most of her strangeness can be put down to having less than two brain cells to rub together George, however, is cunning and sly but also incredibly affectionate and cute. It's a maddening combination!

I may have to try spraying his backside. That might give him a start, heehee.

Ours also has a lack of brain cells... Good Luck with the taming!
