do it have a thermostat
has there been any health issues,ie mites respritory infections ect, check around the mouth for any discharge or noise, examine the snake head to tail for mites (little black dots).
Also ask about how and what it's feeding on and if it sheds ok,look out for dry pieces of skin still stuck to it.They will probably just tell you what you want to hear any way so just look at the general condition and how it is being kept,Do you have a link to the ad?

ask the vendor to pick the snake up for you and see how he handles it and how the snake is with being handled
visually check the snake for any wounds, missing scales or parasites
run your hand the whole length of the snake to feel for kinks or unusual bulges
hold the snake close to your ear to listen for any rasping or wheezing that could indicate an RI
check the vent area is clean and not mis-shapen
check in the mouth if you can, you may need to open the lowere jaw with a pen lid or similar, it should be clean and pink

in the viv check any poo that's in there is like bird poo, not pale or sticky
and check everything you need is there including a stat

ask if the vendor has a feeding/shedding record and if you can see the size of the mice that it's feeding on and ask how frequently it feeds

there's not a lot of info in the ad but it seems a very big tank for an 8 month old snake though........... could have feeding problems that are easily resolved with a smaller enclosure temporarily?

the reason for sale might be interesting

sounds like you'll need to buy a stat, another hide, and find some way to partition the 3ft viv............?

Ask about length and weight, so you can get some idea of if it is underweight for its age. Also need to ask why the owner is getting rid. xxx
