Snake Mite

Am I correct in thinking that a snake can catch snake mites from substrate that is sold specifically for reptiles. (Surely not)
Do I need to put my reptile substrate (aspen) in the oven to be safe.

if you buy your substrate from a safe source, then there should be absolutely no parasites in it. however, you can oven it to put your mind at rest!

really it's only damp substrates like orchid bark thet you need to bake off,very,very rare to find mites in aspen,beech chippings ect
