well the time as come and i have had to say good bye to my first reptile my little leopard gecko

vets rang and told me this afternoon that it was a twisted gut that is apprently a common problem in the leopard gecko genes.

just feel like s**t, like ive let down my reps, like i could of helped her. like the dark side said i should of noticed earlier. meybe im just not cut out for them yet.

just want to say a BIG BIG thanks to paulasworm for his help last night. maybe "dark side" were tight about me mate

Wow, Brookestar, Im sorry for your loss. It is hard loosing an animal in your care.
But you shouldn't blame yourself! I dont know much about Leos but I doubt there was much you could do, appart from spot the signs earlier but as Lee said, every one makes mistakes. Its not like you neglected them.
Dont let this bad experience put you off doing something you love.

Hope your OK,

Aww dammit. Sorry to hear that mate. Like the others have said, we all make mistakes. That's how we learn but as a newbie to leos you wouldn't have noticed it until it got as bad as it did. The fact that the pet shop have offered you another free makes me think that it had problems before you got it. It was already playing catch-up after losing its original tail. Don't cut yourself up over it mate.

hey i always say this its a harsh lesson to learn ....but u learn by your mistakes....and yet it could of been ill before you got it seeing you had it only 2 weeks(no offence to ur shop there)but nobody can always spot an illness straight away

That's good to know. A lot of the less reputable stores wouldn't have bothered to offer. If you decide to get another do you want me to speak to Marc about finding you a "mentor" (bad choice of word but I couldn't think of another) to help you get some confidence with leos? He is more than happy to help you get up to speed with them.

So sorry Brookestar. Was following your thread with Paul last night and it looked like there was nothing you could have done - the damage was already effecting him before he showed any sign of it, and as Paul said if he had already lost his tail once he cant have been particularly healthy considering how young he was. I know you will, but try not beat yourself up about it. You did everything you could with the knowledge you had and that is all we can do. Dont let this experience be too big a blow to your self-confidence. You have too much to offer to others, and to whatever animals you have now and will have in the future. xxx

dont beat yourself up about it..these things happen and sometimes we arent meant to see the signs.. after having a staffy and seeing how high their pain threshold is nothing surprises me with how resilient some animals are..
its not your fault - you are new to geckos and still learning but like others have said now you would be able to recognise the signs..dont give up on yourself and your animal owning abilities
