I am starting to act like a new Mum as my snake didn’t come out of his hide last night and that was enough to get me worried. I got him out and his skin was still shiny but his eyes didn’t look so clear (although I couldn’t work out if I was being over fussy). He didn’t come out of his hide again tonight but this time when I went to get him out I noticed his eyes were blue so I left him alone. I am so looking forward to him shedding but also so disappointed that I cannot handle or feed him for (how long I am not sure) what seems like ages to a newbie over eager snake owner.

Thanks for the feedback but do you know “just leave him be” sounds like swearing to a newbie especially after leaving him be for a week when I first got him. Waiting 7 days to handle him almost killed me (OK over exaggeration here but I am sure you know what I mean) and now I have to leave him again.

Welcome to the club, mum! Nice to know the Real Hawk and myself are not the only ones driving outselves silly over normal snake behaviour. A couple of days ago I was asking whether anxiety will do or should I go into panic, and I can tell you now that if my snake doesn't take his next feed I'll be seeking advice on the merits of human sacrifice to appease the gods.

OMG! We are all F***ed up snake Mums (sorry but I cant think of a better way of putting this).
I am sure that I have post (snake) natal depression as I don’t know what else could describe what I am feeling.
Loving every minute and scared of what I might do wrong.

Welcome to life with a snake, especially when you are new at it. I am still new, having only had my 4 and a half year old for about 5 months. For the first 13 weeks of that time Kellog decided to fast!! Would have seriously gone insane if it hadnt been for this forum! You will find really good advice here and can ask the silliest question without feeling stupid.
He is 'blue' at moment, time when his eyes are cloudy and skin dull. He is virtually blind at this time so will be defensive and probably will stay in hide. His skin and eyes then clear up and he will look fine, then about 2 days to a week later he will shed. You might notice him rubbing nose against hide, branch etc to begin shedding. Will warn you that once it starts it can be over in the blink of an eye. Might be worthwhile moving waterbowl to warm end of viv to increase humidity which will help with the shed. Once he has shed he will look amazing and feel so smooth!
Am hoping the nervous mum feeling goes away at some point, am sure it must up to a point as it does with real kids. xxx
