I am not happy right now, As I have just had to throw out the weeks worth of Rodents 
But I want to know why.
Right,
I usually defrost my mice in either of these ways
- Frozen Rodents in warm water for however long they need
- Frozen rodents in a food bag to defrost over a few hours
This week I put the mice/rats into a food bag then into a small faunarium. I then filled the faun up with warm water in the hope that the mice would stay dry. Unfortunatly, Im guessing the food bag wasnt waterproof as water had filled the bag up.
Anyway, I left the mice for an hour or so and when I went to feed the snakes, I opened the faun and bag and was hit by an awful stench! It was disgusting 
There was no way that my snakes were eating those rodents
So why did they stink sooo bad 
They never normally smell at all. The defrost method wasnt much different from how I usually do it. And, the Rodents came from a very good source, so I know they were fresh and good.
Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

| I agree with flatpack maybe they were of before freezing. I use very hot water to defrost and have never had any smell. |

Mine usually have a very very mild smell to them, these were rancid
But, Perhaps the bag had contained the smell and caused it to be worse when opened.
I know for sure that the mice were fresh before.
Oh well, Wont be defrosting them like that again.
Was just annoyed last night as my weeks supply went to waste. Over it now  |
