Theodor has an appetite like an elephant and I'm worried he might be getting slightly overweight. He is 5 years old and 5ft 1inch long. He currently eats one XL mouse every three days. thinking i might start him on rats once a week.
Can anyone tell me what weight Theo should be? Gonna weigh him tomorrow.

Feeding every 3 days is to much, no wonder he might be overweight. You dont want to give him rats as these are more fatty than mice so it wont help with his weight problem. Weigh him, then let us know his weight. Feeding every 7-10 days is normal but if he is overweight you might have to feed every 14 days for a while. |

feeding him like that you will do him no favours,
AS Remmy says you will cause more probs giving him rats..
how much does he weigh do you know?

Definitely cut back. Kellog is 4 and a half years old, approx 4 feet long and is fed 1 large mouse once a week. Think he weighed approx 670g at last weigh in. If you are feeding him that often you cant be getting any handling time, which is when he burns off his fat by exercising. Pic? xxx |

SB - does that mean Kellog is overweight? He is about 4 and a half years old, just over 4 feet long and weighed 669g yesterday. He is fed a large mouse once a week. He certainly doesnt feel fat and I dont think he really looks it, but compared Casper???? xxx |

If he doesn't look fat then he's probably fine although I would feed less frequently personally. |

Are there any guide weights according to length and age? If anything Kellog still feels as though he needs to put a bit more weight on. He is still not back to full weight from before his 13 week fast. xxx |

Theo ain't fat yet.lol. He was quite under weight when i got him, poor wee man. I have reduced his feeding to one xl mouse per week and he is gettong out every day for exercise except 48hours after dinner. He seems happy enough at that. will post his weight asap.

wow... thats heavy... but then dont really know what weight a turbo corn should be. I still wouldnt be feeding him an xl every week, 10-14 days tops.
to weigh easily, put your snake in a pillow case, put the pillowcase in a shoebox or similar, put the box on the scales. if your scales have a tare function (only on digi ones) tare just the pillowcase inside the box before adding your snake, then there is no subtracting to do.
also, we would love to see pictures- we will soon be able to tell you whether he wants to go on a diet or not. I'd be very surprised if he wasnt a little portly after being fed every 3 days |
