My corn is 3 years and ive had her 5 months now 
when ever i put my hand in her viv she always re-coils and doesnt want to come out ..
ive heard from some people on here that when they put there hands in their corns viv, they will happily slither onto their hands
im a little upset because i obviously havent gained the trust of my corn  is there anything i can do to change this ?

Hi i have the same problem ive owned my corn for 1 month now and hes 2 years old,
When i put my hand in the viv i leave it in there for a few mins so he gets my scent and then when i try to pick him up he gets scared and trys for me not to pick him up but when i do finally get hold of him and out of the viv hes fine i think you should just leave your hand in the viv for 5 mins a day until he knows your not a threat or gonna eat him this is the tactic i have been told from a friend that owns over 15 different snake breeds. And i could say its working! |

| leave a t-shirt in the viv over night. the snake will pick up your scent and slowly come round to you. |

| i don't think it's neccessarily a trust issue....... some of my corns are particularly active and inquisitive, otheres aren't. it's the inquisitive ones that come to me when i open the viv up........ and people often interpret that as trust or affection but i'm not so sure |

ok thanks for all your advice guys i feel lil better now
i think i agree with yu gingerpony and yu matty18714, im thinkin of it as trust but like yu said its just their inquisitive nature or lack of, that makes them do the things they do .. thinkin about it, when she is hungry she will more than happily sit at the viv doors and when i open them, she will come out and have a wonder on her own ..

| Dont worry Chrissy, I have had my corn for a over a month now and he was coming round to me, learning to trust me untill he got masking tape stuck to himself! (came out the bedding long story!) I had to soak him in a small container for a while to get it off. Now he hates me and Im futher back than square 1! He strikes at me every time I go near the viv. Today I had to put him in a pillow case just to spot clean his viv! I have left a clean sock that I have down my bra for a while. Im starting the trust thing all over again!! |

| Interesting way to get your scent on a sock paula! Chrissy, I agree with what everyone has said. Remember it takes time and patience for a snake to get used to you and you to get used to the snake. It will also pick up if you are nervous and could affect his behaviour. Leave him for a while without trying to handle him, therefore he wont feel any threat, but put your hand in every day changing his water, smoothing his substrate, fiddling with things, getting your smell on it, but staying away from him. Hopefully he will slowly get used to your smell and that you are not a threat and then you can begin trying to handle, but again just for short periods of time to begin with. Patience will hopefully earn you his 'trust'. xxx |

Mine never wants to come out, always coils onto the leaves and tries to hide. Little git, but once he's out he's fine.
So best to just say "right your'e coming out like it or not" |

My big male will come out of the viv the minute I open the door, my female wont come near me! all depends how bold your snake is, I wouldnt be too worried about your snake not trusting you.
snakes that slither onto their owners hand wont be doing it because they like them- they will be more interested in the fact that the hand and arm appear to be a fab way of escaping the viv and going hunting! |

| It was an old clean trainer sock! And guess where Bam's new favorite hide is? Yep in the sock!! Made it easier to get him out erlier (had to sort the cable and probe out) just lifted him in the sock, put him in a pillow case. When I went to get him out the pillow case, he was still in the sock! Well at least im not going to have to chase him round the viv next time I want a "cuddle"! |

i dont think you should worry about it at all..
i have a corn who stays curled up when i go to get her out, another that is happy to sit on me and one that currently legs it faster than Lewis Hamilton when i go to get him out..
the trust is there when they are not striking at you...or in flight when you got to handle them...
All snakes are different...

Isolde is kinda like that with me at the moment, after her eye injury if i went anywhere near her viv she'd start striking, and if my hand went in she'd bite me, after a few weeks shes now like a normal hatchling skitty. Takes time |

When I got mine, had him for 2 months 11 days ;) I left my wooly hat in there. it didn't stink of anything only my hair :p and he happily coiled up in there!!
