I'm considering trying to introduce our two snakes (Rocky & Reggie) to each other, hopefully with a view to the pair of them sharing a larger viv together when they are older. Our local pet shop currently has three different colour morphs all sharing the same viv and they look great together.
Rocky and Reggie are yearlings (Rocky is a couple of weeks older than Reggie) and they are very similar in size.
I don't want to take any chances and wonder if getting them both out for exercise at the same time would be the way forward ? Obviously my husband would have care and control of Rocky whilst I would have Reggie.
Any advice would be much appreciated. |

Controversial subject here-
if you do decide to house them together, think about these-
1. are they DEFINITELY both male? (sounds silly, but hey...)
2. are you doing it so they will have company, or so you can save room? snakes are solitary creatures, and housing them together can lead to competition and stress.
3. your local pet shop will have snakes housed together becuase it isn't economical to have all thier animals in seperate vivs, and just because the colours look nice, doesnt mean you should try it yourself.
4. younger, smaller snakes have more chance of engaging in cannabalism.
5. if you do put them together, make sure to provide plenty of hides so they are not forced to share the same/best one.
6. not sure why getting them out at the same time would help with the process of housing them together? that would be the last thing on my mind ...

i think you need to read into the matter and make your own decision. whilst ppl like matty stongly disagree with co-inhabiting i agree with it. this topic holds a lot of biased ppl so read into it and make a dicision

| Thanks for the advice, please forgive my ignorance I am very new to this and I am trying to read as much as possible to keep my snakes as happy as I can. I think the advice speaks for itself, I will leave them as they are. As long as they are ok thats all that matters. Thanks again. |

i cohabit my adult and 2 year old snakes but would cohabit anything under 2 years unless i was 200% positive they were same sex..........
this is because i've recently been caught out with 2 18month old 'females' one of which was incorrectly sexy by a well-known reputable shop. the correctly sexed female was really too small to breed and has taken a very long time to recover. so from experience it's not worth the risk! |
