In my Local Pet shop they sell Half coconuts fill with bird food. they look like they would make a perfect hide for Hercules. what i wanna know is if it is safe for him and what i need to do to treat it once its empty?

i use coconuts but i brought mine as coconuts from asda on 59p i think. to treat them all i done was to bake them at 120c for 1hour and let to cool

As above, in the past I have bought my own, scooped the coconut flesh out and baked the shell.

im definalty gonna make a few of them. you could make different sized hides and they are cheap

How do you cut a hole in the coconut do you mean a full one or half ?

i have done half ones with an arch and i have done ones with a small bit sawn off the bottom and a hole cut at the top i used a hole saw attachment for a drill

i bought a coconut hide for mont - think it cost £2 or something as i didnt realise i could make one myself lol

Mine are made from the bird feeders, fed the birds first then I scrubbed them clean, then put arch in using a dremmel, then I sterilized it in Milton, then baked it in the over for a bit at 100 degrees and its now Mojo's favourite hide.
So yes IMO they are fine for a snakes hide ;)

the ones i made myself i ut the holes in the top and it seem to be it's favourit.
