So i started work on my viv an hour or so ago,
i think progress isnt bad, the 45 degree ends to make up the bottom rectangle arent so grea , slight gaps but nothing that cant be fixed
so i was thinking of once i get the top made up ill use laminate flooring i have laying around for the walls, and i have some toughened glass laying around aswell but will i be able to gut this to size or will i need a professional to do it? i also have some perspex, but id prefer the glass, any suggestions? and what about the laminate, will that hold in heat of will i need something better?

Toughened glass is near impossible to cut, it just shatters into tiny cubes. Most glass gets cut, then toughened.

Go to a local glaziers, they should be able to sort you out with bits fairly cheap, 4mm float should only be about a fiver or so for something 18x30 inches (ish), they may charge a bit extra to sand the edges though.

Perspex is just as good for viv fronts. It's what I have.
One downside with perspex, it can be quite flexible which can give the snakes a bit of an edge to escape. But bolstered up and they have no chance.

I'd go glass as perspex scratches easier then you'll have to replace it, might as well get glass the first time round. Dont pay to have your edges polished or sanded, the glazier should give them a bit of a sand anyway for handling purposes, and if you require more sanding, just use fine sand paper and d.i.y ;) thats all I did and has worked fine.

I suppose most glaziers would give them a gentle rub anyway, You're right Mick. I'm just comparing it to the one I use, they don't with me because I used to work for them and they believe that if I handled 2ftx4ft+ sheets without having sanded edges, then smaller ones are gonna be no bother. Downside for me then.
