Does anybody else find their snakes get dehydrated when blue? Diego has been blue for a few days now, he's been on his heat mat under the substrate and I've left him to it. Unfortunately he dropped a stinker and needed a full clean today so I pulled him out and dumped him in his tupperware hide to sulk while I gagged at cleaning up the mess he made. While he was in the box I gave him a squirt with the spray bottle and he immediately started desperately sucking droplets off his back! I offered him his bowl and he drank like there was no tomorrow.
I'm confused because he's been laying 3 inches from his bowl, I haven't moved it so he knows where it is and it's changed every other day. So why wasn't he drinking if he needed to so badly?
This isn't the first time I've noticed it with my snakes. I gave Luna a bath once mid shed because she'd been clear for too long with no skin shed, and she started drinking the bath water. Normally she'd flip out in the bath. The babies *all* drink mid shed if I put them in their bowl, but won't go to it themselves while blue, even though the know where it is. Is this just an all round snakey thing or are my bunch idiots?

Stanlee seems to be the same. Water is in same place but while she's been blue, I've not noticed her get a drink.
When I had to bath her to remove the sticker , she was drinking the water. When I spray her viv, or refill her water dish she sucks the droplets off it and the walls! Must be a snake thing I think lol

I find mine sometimes like to drink droplets from misting, too, when in blue.

They also like to drink when out for handling, and I had a really cute moment last week, with handling Twid. I took him outside, just after a massive rain shower. The sun was out, and there were huge rain droplets, all lit up by sun like diamonds, on crocosmia leaves. I wish I had a camera on me - Twid was bright orange, the leaves fresh green, and those huge raindrops sparkling in the sun - I put Twid against the leaves, just to appreciate all the colours - and he drunk the droplets! So cute, his little nose just touched each droplet, and sucked it in!

It's not like I don't change their water daily, but they just seem to prefer to get it, when roaming ( and where they're not supposed to :-) ).

Skully does this. She'll hide under the aspen on the heat matt and stay there for 1-2 weeks, no eating, drinking or moving lol. If i do get her out during this time she will drink from anything, happily dunking her head into MY glass to drink water if i let her. Sometimes it seems like she's drinking for ages, i've watched her sucking water for over a minute on occassion ! We had a couple of bad sheds which i assume was down to dehydration so now when i notice her in blue i'll put a damp flannel in the viv just to boost humidity a bit - no more bad sheds.

I haven't seen mine drink a lot while they're blue although a couple will occasionally poke their heads out and tongue flick after I mist their vivs. It drives me mad because they all seem to prefer their warm hides when they're blue and ignore it when I put a moss box in. Don't know why I bother .
