I have been reading many excellent posts on your forum prior to getting my first Corn Snake. Many years ago - back in the 50s/early 60s - I used to keep all manner of reptiles and snakes and all caught from the wild which you could do in those days. Grass snakes, smooth snakes and adders as well as newts and lizards all came my way and were housed in all sorts of unsuitable containers and all survived until I was bitten by one of my adders and mum told me to get rid of the lot!

And now I have inherited from my son a vivarium in which he used to keep a beautiful corn snake until a family bereavement forced him to change his lifestyle somewhat and he gave it to a neighbour whose house is full of snakes and, one thing leading to another, this same snake has become a dad!

So, in a while, I shall be taking on a small addition to the family and I shall be posting one or two questions initially about some queries I have with the viv set-up, so be patient with me please!

Hello and welcome to the forum

Gosh Adders I don't blame your mum for making you get rid of them. Although they are beautiful snakes and I would love to catch a glimpse of one in the wild, the venom is a worry!

It's a great place to ask questions and I'm sure people will be patient and as helpful as others were for them when they were the ones asking questions

Hi Ant, it is really good that you have joined us. As you'll have seen, this is a great forum with lots of experienced owners happy to give their advice and support. You also get lots of fun and friendship . If you're a Facebook user you can also join our group on there - Thecornsnake.co.uk

That's amazing about the reptiles you used to keep all those years ago. My family often go out adder hunting and truly respect such beautiful snakes. As a mum I'm not surprised yours told you to get rid of them all! I have enough trouble stopping my OH from wanting to pick them up and photograph them .

If you can't find what you want to know using the search option, then please don't hesitate to ask. We don't bite, much . In the top right corner, by the search option, is 'Active topics'. You can use that to access those threads that have been commented on since you last logged in.

Pics are compulsory, of course. Hopefully this will help - How to post images using Photobucket , although it is playing up at the moment . You will need to look at this as well Photobucket update . You can also post pics via Facebook. Select the IMG option (top of box, yellow and looks like a mountain), then just right click on the Facebook photo, select copy URL and add them between the [img] tags. Hopefully that makes sense!

I see on your other post that your son's old snake's eggs didn't hatch. I'm sorry about that. I've given you a list of breeders you could look into. A word of warning though, this won't be your last corn....they are addictive .

Xxx
