My stripe laid 14 eggs last night. Male was a tessera
Can't believe how quick it's happened, the 1st time they mated was 26 days ago.

I know nothing about breeding except that a corn is normally gravid for 6 - 8 weeks. That's not even 4 weeks ! Are you sure she wasn't with a male previously to the time in your records?

Is she cohabited with another female? If so then that female could be a male.

She's always lived on her own and is a first time breeder. I didn't think it was possible but Pro corns answered a thread on rfuk saying they had one female that laid 23 days after mating. So it's not very common but seems to be possible

Just a thought; could it be that she already had eggs growing inside from naturally occurring follicles? My Maizie has laid eggs for the past two years; they're unfertilised, she's never lived with another snake, has never been bred and since the age of 3 (2013) has laid two clutches. 24th May last year and 10th May this year. Some females, as I understand it, can just produce eggs without having locked with a male. That could be another explanation for the speedy laying, or as you have been told on rfuk, it could just be a fluke!

Time will tell, they look good. They're incubating now so in about a weeks time i'll candle them to see if they're fertile. (i think they will be)

So glad they're ok . It's interesting that it can happen so fast, even if you did get that info from the 'dark side' .

Thanks kez, kellog. It was someone else's thread on rfuk asking how quick they can lay.
Funny thing is i've got an amel female that was also bred to my tessera (he's het amel and caramel) that mated only once 17 days ago, she shed 5 days ago and I can feel a row of eggs in her as she moves over my finger.

Last year my girl Sakana took 4.5 weeks to lay, this year she took between 6-8 weeks. Two different lock dates(3rd April and 7th April). To pinpoint, if she took on the 3rd April then it took her 7 weeks and 5 days. If she took on 7th April then it took her 7 weeks and 1 day lol.

Kali laid 41 days after the first lock this year and 43 days after first lock last year. She's consistent I guess it depends on whether their body started producing eggs before they accepted the male or whether they accepted the male and used stored sperm to fertilise eggs that they then produced. Interesting stuff
