| Hi all, skully's been putting me through the emotional rollercoaster and thought i'd share. So i moved her into her big viv about six weeks ago and everything was great, she was making use of all the space, feeding drinking pooing etc. Then after two succesful feeds she refused a mouse. I thought nothing of it, she was due to shed and looked a bit dull in colour, also its breeding season. I normally dont feed or handle during shedding so i left her alone, just changing water daily. A week went by and she had been buried in aspen under her warm hide all week so i decided not to offer food, thinking she would shed any day. This is when the worry started lol its kinda hard when you know your pet has gone two weeks without food and i started doubting my decision to wait. I didnt help that i hadnt seen her for over a week. Eventually i gave in to worry and dug her out, half expecting to find a dead snake. She was fine, and to my suprise looked completely normal, not like she was shedding although she only wanted to hide in my tshirt - typical behaviour for her when shes due to shed. I felt better but confused - i decided to continue to wait for a shed before feeding. Another five days past and my worry levels were back at full when last night i noticed her parading around the viv like a queen at coronation - sure enough there's a perfect shed in there with her ! I cant describe the relief, its kinda silly how happy i am. Do they do it on purpose ?? She really knows how to scare me lol |

I can totally empathise with the worry Richard. Despite owning snakes for quite a few years now and having gone through a number of breeding seasons I still worry and am still very relieved when they eat. I think the longest for one of mine was 3 months. I'm also always relieved when they do shed and it's a full, clean one. I'm the same as you, I don't handle or feed mine when blue. One of mine, Kellog, did a 'double blue' once. He went blue with eyes clouded over. They cleared up and I expected him to shed a few days later. Instead I find that his eyes have clouded over again! Think it took about 2 weeks from him first going blue to finally shedding. No idea why it happened.
They like to keep us on our toes and they definitely don't follow the 'text books'  .
