So the unthinkable has happened, Boots has escaped. We don't even know how, we had her out for a cuddle last night, viv was closed, and now she's gone. We've torn the lounge upside down but there are so many places she could have gone, we even ripped out the wooden mantle screwed to the wall and found several holes where she could have gotten into the walls or floor. It's an old house with so many tiny spaces. I'm gutted, she was a grumpy cow but I miss her. The lounge is covered in flour and there's pinkies in strategic places next to hides, a viv on the floor with a heat source and hides, and we're working on a bottle trap. I hope she shows up soon :(

No sign of any tracks in the flour this morning, pinkies are untouched and the dog hates us. We banished him to the kitchen for the night so he didn't walk through the flour. We have no idea how long she was gone before we noticed, could have been anywhere up to 16 hours. We rarely see her anyway, she's such a shy snake, so we didn't think anything was wrong when she seemed to be hiding :(

Oh no, good luck and hope you'll find her, she's bound to come out of hiding at some point... have you tried putting down plastic bags, then, late at night, listening for a rustle?

Have you tried braining the pinkies to make the scent stronger?
Hope you find her soon.

I'm reasonably sure she got under the floorboards :/ I pulled a piece of skirting off the wall and found many, many gaps and snake shaped tunnels behind it leading down through the floorboards. Unfortunately it's a rented house with faux-wooden planks on the floorboards, so there's absolutely no chance of pulling them up, otherwise I'd do it in a blink. It's also a very old house and of we did pull the floorboards up it would probably collapse... I've left the bottle trap next to the holes with her favourite sleeping tube, hopefully she'll surface, but she regularly hides away for days at a time.

No sign of her, and we've hoovered up the flour we left out. I've ordered a small camera to stick down the holes, hopefully we'll at least be able to see her, or see some tracks in the dust. Can't sit around doing nothing, it's killing me imagining her cold and thirsty down there.

I have put a bowl down, also her sleeping tube, various hides, and a heat cable and a bottle trap. We've put her old glass viv on the floor fully set up so if she does venture out she might head for the familiar surroundings.

Slim chance it could work but if you could get under your floor. ( there is usually an access panel somewhere. Ours is under the stairs) I am a firefighter and we have thermal image cameras ( and yes I know snakes are cold blooded before anyone says it) but if boots finds a heat source he may show up on it. I work in Manchester so am to far to help. If you know anyone who knows a firefighter near to you it could be worth a call to the station and ask. They may or may not but worth a try. They may say it's called a special service call (ssc) which could be chargeable so check first. if they can't help you can hire a thermal image camera from hss rental shops but there are no prices on the site you would have to ring. And the camera may not even pick up boots if he is cold. If I was closer I could have brought ours to try but I'm to far sorry. Hope you find boots soon.

Thats an idea I'll certainly look into, but unfortunately there's really no way under the floor, the best we've found is her probably escape route which is a gap behind the skirting board. Our flt is split over 2 levels with the kitchen in the basement and the lounge above it, so she's in the kitchen ceiling/lounge floor. I've scoured the kitchen hoping for a way up, but short of ripping down the ceiling there's nothing I can do (and the landlord would not be pleased if we did that).

I've jiggled the camera about a bit and not seen much, but it's floppy on the cable so I'm going to wait for OH to get back since he's more technically minded than me and he might find a solution. For now I've poked it in the hole hoping the light might inspire some curiosity so she comes to have a look.

Found mouse droppings under the floor with the camera, and I'm thinking that's not good. If there's live prey down there then Boots is very unlikely to be tempted by our bated bottle traps. I've trained the camera on the spot with the droppings in the hopes that she comes to investigate it. Finding her seems less and less likely, we've discovered the gaps at the bottom of the wall lead to a massive bricked in chimney that leads up to the next floor. It looks easy to scale for a small snake. I'd probably better warn the lady upstairs in case she puts in an appearance o.O

Anybody got a male king snake in breeding season mode we can borrow? My reasoning is Boots showed that behaviour earlier in the year, so maybe if there was a male giving off king snake pheromones she might be attracted to him O.o

Absolutely nothing :/ I let Diego out last night for a wander, he's in full breeding mode so I'm hoping his pheromones might draw her out, she's just about reaching adolescence. Different species but worth a shot. I was also hoping he might pick up her trails, he did find a few around but they all led back to nothing :(

He's doing a fantastic job of being a sniffer snake but he hasn't turfed her out yet. I even put him in the sofa from underneath to see if she was holed up there, but no luck :/ He quite likes the lady hunting time though lol.
