Please can anybody advise on the best set up for a corn snake hatchling . I currently have an empty 3ft viv but believe I can keep a hatchling in a small plastic container inside. Not sure on what temps, bedding and how to feed, have kept corn snakes before but never a hatchling. Any advise would be great . Thanks.

Setting up babies is really easy, temps are the same as for adults (21C at the cold end to 30C at the hot spot). I heat mine with a heat cable running under the box, you could use a mat too, just make sure it doesn't cover more than half the box so they can thermoregulate effectively. In my experience in such a small box it's better to have a smaller hot spot (quarter of the tank or so) as they heat can build up fairly quickly inside. You could keep one in a box in the viv. I use 10 liter plastic boxes with flip top lids that have plenty of ventilation. You could use a faunarium too, I prefer those but getting one each for 15 hatchies would have been too much XD Bedding is up to you, I prefer just to use kitchen roll (maybe with a small amount of beech chips) because they do tiny poops so it's easier to spot them and clean them out. Kitchen roll can just be replaced easily. Feed an appropriately sized prey, not bigger than 1.5x the width of the snake at the widest point, but it should still leave a noticeable lump in the snake when swallowed. If there's no lump it's time to up a size. |

The thread Redware has linked to you is great at explaining what you need and how to set it all up. A hint, get everything you need well before you get your snake so you can get it all set up and make sure everything is working properly before you bring it home. You'll also find a lot of information on feeding, shedding and handling in General Keeping Information - Stickies
It is very different taking on a hatchling after dealing with adults. I got a yearling, having only had older corns, and I found that strange. If you can't find what you want to know using the search option, then please don't hesitate to ask. We don't bite, much .
