Hi, not only am I new to snake keeping but also new to chat forums so please bear with me as I'm a little nervous about both - but keen to learn! How do I become more confident at handling my new snake? I didn't expect to feel this nervous with him and I know it's unjustified as he's fairly docile but I think my nerves are making him nervous too. Feel a bit stupid really but would appreciate some handling tips. |

hi and welcome along. the only thing that helps build confidence is time and patience and just blag your way through it. so long as you can act confident both you and the snake will become less nervous. |

Thank you for replying, it's good to hear from someone who knows more about these things. I'll get there in the end, helps that he's such a lovely wee thing. I think once / if I experiece a bite and realise it's nothing, then I'll relax more. He's sort of reared up once or twice but then seems to change his mind and tries to hide or burrow. Cannot believe how STRONG he is though!! Massive excitement earlier today though (part excitement, part terror) feeding him for the very first time so proud of us both. (Why does it say snake mite under my chat name?) |

bites arent worth worrying over they are nothing especially from young corns.
nice one on the feeding good result :D
As for the snake mite below your name is just a forum ranking type thing based on number of posts. not something I like i may add. they are, mite, egg, hatchling, yearling, sub adult and fully grown corns. admins have whatever we fancy lol also have been known to change some from time to time if the mood takes us :D |

Ah, so there are sort of staff on here too? Didn't think of that, doh! My new baby isn't exactly a baby - he's about 4 years old and about 3' - 3-and-a-half' so that's why i'm really scared of him biting me. All the things i've found online advise new keepers about hatchlings and small babies, nothing about 'toddler' bites. Still, I don't expect it'll warrant my exessive fear but I just don'tknow what to expect - and worse when to expect it! He's so fast!!! |

Hi Everyone :) There are so many really beautiful snakes on here, I had no idea there were so many possible patterns and colours! I think ours looks most like Prism, I'll try to get a photo of him on here soon but he wont have a name until Xmas. It's a bit like having a child in that you think your own is so much more pretty than everyone elses |

Thanks for the 'Sticky' advice Benji54, much appreciated and I will take heed. It's also given me something to think about as I don't know the answer to some of these things myself yet, but I'm learning fast - there's lots of great tips on here, so glad I joined |

Sorry to throw a spanner in the works, but Prism is a Colombian rainbow boa not a corn! Sounds like you may have either an anery or a normal if it is similar colouring though ;)
The corns in my sig are Corno (anery so no red) and Ember (amel so no black). Hermes and Hades are African house snakes, Artemis is a carpet python and Hoggy is a western hognose ;) |

The people on here ARE amazing!! I followed Kellog's Handling Tips advice and went from shaking like a leaf as soon as I opened the Viv to actually having my wee snake out of the Viv and all over me earlier tonight!! Oh My God, it was amazing I was totally faking it but he was sweet enough to pretend not to notice and was even just sitting still for a cuddle at one point! He seems to like me, I can't believe how good it feels. I'm in Love Oh, and Kellog's pretty cool too
