Hey there!
This is the second shed of my VBB at home. The first went perfectly fine but this time it's been a big fail. I just found a 3cm piece of old skin from her chin. So obviously the rest of her skin is still on her. I moisted the viv and let her be for 6h yesterday afternoon, and have put her on a moist tube all night. Still nothing. I have released her into her terrarium because I don't want to put her under too much stress.
I have tried to determine where the old shed starts and where the new one begins on her chin with no results. What would you do now?
I am concerned about leaving all her old skin on her...
Thank you guys in advance! |

I'd suggest a bath but other than that I don't think there's much else you can do. Diego did the opposite; he got all the shed off except the strip under his chin, I dunked him in his water bowl and a few days later found it. Just leave her with a damp hide for a few days, she'll probably start the full shed soon. |

I did bathe her too, I did so many things that I forgot to mention! Yes, I will leave her to it and try not to stress her by handling her too. There's not much I can do, I just hope she feels she still needs to get rid of her old skin... |

May be worth putting her in a small tub with damp kitchen roll on the base and placing it on a heat mat to get some condensation going for a couple of hours. Then getting her to run through a towel afterwards while still damp. |

Just wondering - is it possible you could have missed that bit of skin from the first shed? Has she definitely shed it this time? I would just make sure she has a moist hide (possibly remove other hides to make sure she uses it), something rough in there to rub against and move the water bowl to the warm side to raise humidity a bit - maybe even spray 1x daily or something? Try no to worry, she'll probably be perfectly fine on her own :) |

Smart Bunny - I thought about that and I am quite sure it's recent... I mean, I'd like to think I didn't miss half her face from her last shed, but I am not 100% sure. :'(
I will leave her to it like you said, removing all hides but one - the moist one - and moving the water bowl to the hot side AND spray water once a day as I have been doing.
If there's nothing new in a couple of days I will probably give her another bath and lock her in a moist tub overnight again.
I will update you guys! Thank you for your helpful replies, as always! <3 |

Okay, so I cam home and found a lot of scattered skin pieces on Furia's viv... I am GLAD her eye caps shed properly. I put her on warm water for 15 min or so and made her squeeze her way out a towel. Some more skin fell off her body but still not even half of it.
So I spent half an hour manually taking her shed off, very gently. She's usually quite nervous but she kept quite calm, I guess she was able to feel her skin was coming off and it was a good thing...
I have humidified the viv's subsract and left only moist hides, and moved the water bowl to the hot side. I hope any un-shed skin will thus come off on its own.
Thanks again for your inputs! |

Aww poor love, they do seem to know when we are helping them shed! I've had to help some of our snakes out a couple of times, and they've always seemed really grumpy when you get them out, and then when the shed starts coming off they get so much happier and just let you get on with it!
Glad you didn't have to mess about with the eye caps, and I hope she gets the rest off OK. I don't know much about beauties, do they require higher humidity than corns? It may well just be because it's got colder and you've had heating on which dries the air - I never use a humid hide for the corns, but Corno has had a couple of broken sheds recently so I must remember to put one in for her next time. |

Well to my knowledge beauties do not require special humidity, but they like to take baths in their water bowls so I guess it makes up for the lack of humidity requirement ;)
But you're right, I was thinking what I had done wrong considering I had done nothing differently than last month when she last shed, and could not pinpoint anything... until you said it! Last month the weather in Barcelona was still warm like in the summer, and now we've had the temperatures drop drastically. So the heat mat was on this time and of course the humidity level dropped... Too bad I didn't think about that before! I will keep it in mind for next moth for sure!
I hope a moist hide will help Corno next time, it's just awful to see them with ragged pieces of skin falling off their bodies... Poor things!
