Would just grin and bear it and go sockless. However do not tap the corn on the head they don't appreciate it ;)

It is liable to just either stress the snake or make it defend itself as in bite more. Corns are smaller snake species that prefer peace and quiet and a stress free life hitting on the head does absolutely nothing to calm a cornsnake. Larger snakes like retic and burms are tap trained but not smaller snakes. The biting and defensive behaviour your lad is showing will go in time just takes a bit of patience from both owner and snake

Go for it without the sock, even if he does bite you'll likely not feel a thing, i swear they are more gummy than teeth :P
