Hi all,
I am new to the hobby, though my other half has grown up keeping snakes. We recently got him a Royal Python, and with that I was hooked. Although I already have a marine fish tank, and a dog, I just had to have a corn snake.
For months I was dead against the idea of having a snake in the house, and was terrified of them, having never held one or been within touching distance of a snake. That all changed after visiting a few local reptile specialists, I found myself holding a 3ft python (albeit rather gingerly!) and the rest is as they say, history!
[/URL] So this is Noodle. Hatched on 2nd Sept. Not yet sexed, but i find myself calling it HE! So my first question would be at what age can I get my little super noodle sexed?
Sorry for the poor quality picture, but it was through plastic using my phone!
Many thanks, great site by the way :) |

He's not too young, they can be sexed from the moment they hatch by a method called popping. When they get to around six months or so they should be probed instead. I'm guessing your rep shop guy doesn't know how to or isn't comfortable doing popping and what he means by 'too young' is too young to be probed, which is probably true.
Anyway, hi! Welcome to the forum :) |

Thanks all for the welcome and the advice.
I'm guessing you're right, it may be a case of too small, don't want to risk hurting it, which is fine. I'm in no rush, I'd rather let the snake settle first and begin eating etc regularly before moving it about again. I may approach the shop five mins up the road from me, or go back to the breeder as he may know some folk that can help. He is not confident doing it on a snake that small, but maybe once Noodle has gained a few grams I can just go visit him again. Fingers crossed the little guy will take some food at the weekend, will be a very proud mum if he does! Haha! |

Hi and welcome. Noodle is adorable. It is possible to sex snakes from the moment they hatch. If popping is done correctly it won't harm the hatchling. So glad you decided to get a royal and a corn....snakes are beautiful creatures.

Thanks everyone for a lovely welcome, so many nice people! My first hurdle has come about in that Noodle does not want to take a pinkie. Not panicking at the moment, going to leave it another five days after moving him into a smaller enclosure today to see if that helps. |
