Hello everyone, got myself a hatchling corn snake just over three weeks ago after plenty of reading on this site. Not sure about sex or exact age but he(?) is an amel, the shop i bought him from didnt have much to tell me except he was being fed on 2 pinkies every week.

So the advice im after is my snake hasn't eaten since i got him and im a bit worried. I left him for 7 days to settle in when i got him, then offered him a pinkie and he wasn't interested at all so i left it overnight with him in his faun but woke up to find it un moved. I started handling him for short periods each day, which wasn't a problem he was very tame. Then 5 days after the first feed i offered him another pinkie but i put him into a small tub this time and brained it and covered the tub with a tea towel and after a few hours it was still there and he was curled up next it without even touching it, completely uninterested again.

After the second feed i left him alone and didn't handle him incase this was having an effect until today and the third feed, yesterday it was the same as the first feed. He has pooped four times since i got him (once today on me! haha) and been drinking water and he was quite active, roaming around the faun until a few days and now he finds a spot and lays there for a few hours before changing spot. And while handling today it looked like his nose was quite dry and as he went through my hands his skin would sometimes sort of fold and make a suction type noise ( hope that makes sense).

Any advice appreciated guys and im really sorry for the long winded post, just wanted to cram as much information as possible in.

Hi can you tell us what your set up is, what the temp is at the hot end, how many hides you've got, have you got your heat mat on a thermostat to control the temperature? I would stop the handling until he eats a few times in a row.

Sorry forgot to add them bits. I have an exo terra flat faun large. I have a heat mat connected to a thermostat and the temperature sits between 27 and 28oC at the hot end and the probe and temperature sensor are elastic banded together and touchin the bottom of the faun. There is a water bowl and coco den at the cool end, a cave at the hot end and a cork bark hide going between the two side and a plastic plant. This is the setup i bought but added the coco den: Link

I would turn the heat up to 30c it may not sound much but it could make a difference, does your faunarium come with a divider if so move your snake into the large part of the faun cause the space might be too large and making him feel nervous. Am no expert but hope this helps :)

Hi and welcome
If you didnt have the probe under the faun, then i would be against turning temp up
Do you think he might be ready to shed?
dont worry about not eating if a shed is not due, you said he was drinking and pooping, so he is fine, he could go months and not eat and be just fine

Thanks for your replies guys, unfortunately i came home from work today and the poor little guy has died :(

I came home at lunch time and he was moving about the faun, but came home to find him at the front of the faun in a wierd position but left him to it as he seemed to be doing that lately, but just went to check on him an hour later and he hadn't moved so i tried to get his attention which didn't work so i put my hand in and gently touched him before realising he passed away.

I feel really bad. I just double checked my temperatures and they are fine and theres fresh water in the bowl.

Welcome to the forum, sorry to read of the problems you've encountered but it does sound as if you have everything correctly setup so probably just one of those sad things that happen to animal lovers, don't let it put you off getting another.

Welcome to the forum, even though it's a sad one. Please don't blame yourself and don't let it put you off. It seems to me the little snakey was most probably ill when you got him already... Might be an idea - if you're going to get another one, to perhaps get it from a different shop, and give all your equipment a really good clean/ disinfecting , before putting a new snakey in, just in case.

sorry for your loss xx
i got my corns about 3 weeks ago and had to take one back to the breeder cause he was not eating, but when i took him back he feed right away, but i noticed that the breeders pinkies were smaller than mine, since getting the replacement he has feed fine, might be something to do with that,
