Well my first attempt at breeding and we got some eggs, some went bad, a couple died while hatching, waiting on 3 which still look ok & 1 successfully hatched last Friday (20th) it shed yesterday I have tried to offer it a pinky but I'm not sure that is correct so what I need to know is how do you start them off feeding ?

| I only have experience with one clutch, but they were all different' One took its first pinky before it's first shed (it went blue, then cleared, then stayed like that for days. I offered a pinky just in case, and it took it then shed later). Others have taken a pinky off the tongs from the first time, always a few hours after the shed. I've also left pinkies overnight with those who wouldn't take it off the tongs, and they ate fine. Each one is different, and you will need to find what works for them. I also have some that at 2 months old have never eaten a pinky :/ That's frustrating... |

| Thanks, after offering the pinky this evening I have left in in with it tonight, so hopefully will be gone tomorrow (fingers crossed) |

It hatched on 20th shed on 27th but doesn't seem interested in food at all, I have tried 4 times now each time offering it from the tongs and them leaving the pinkey in overnight with it.
The hatchling is hand tame as my 11 y/o has been handling it every day since 22nd
Any other suggestions would be appreciated thank you |

| Well, he has been left alone for a couple of days and tonight I have tried with a brained pinkey, still not interested, left it in with him again see if he'll find it tonight |

Where do you keep the little guy? all our smallies are away from the busy family places.The big friendly chaps have their vivs in the living areas where they can be seen/interacted with.I also keep little ones in a quiet rack where it is quite secretive for them.I know a rack may not be practical for a single hatchie,but it may be worthwhile keeping him in a small rub/faun and sticking dark paper/card around the sides.
Sometimes giving extra shelter makes them more secure; The middle of kitchen rolls/loo rolls make cheap easy hides for a young one.
Most of all try not to worry-they are all different-some of my big guys have never struck at anything-others are tornado's that just keep rolling!
I find feeding in a feeding tub/rub/box is helpful for smallies as they are in a confined space with the food-in time they seem to know that food happens in the little box-saves you getting tagged by the keener feeders! good luck-keep us posted  |

| Thanks for the encouragement and support, he is kept in a Hagen which is stood inside his parents viv, when I try to feed him I take it out and offer the food through the opening in the top, he has a nice little cave he hides away in and the main viv is kept in my 11 year olds bedroom so is away from all the hustle and bussel of daily life |

| Thought I would update you all, alun is still alive, still refuses food, I have been tube feeding him with a concoction of pinky blended with dry puppy food soaked overnight in a little water and egg yoke. Last tubed him at the end of last month so decided today that I was going to force him a pinky head, which I have just done, I'll keep this up now for a little while and see where we go |

| Don't give up, I had two non feeders (hatched beginning of august), last week one of them took her first boiled pinky after 6 months of force feeding and she took her second the other day. I still have one little one not eating, I force feed her chick wings (the bone in them makes it really easy to get it down with minimal fuss). |
