Hi. I don't know if this has been asked before. But I've had my corn snake nearly 8months today whilst feeding I've noticed that 1 he's coiled around his food for the first time ever! But the issue is I've noticed he's shaking/rattling his tail a lot?! And it's not something he's ever done before.
Is he ok? |

Its a defensive mechanism, makes them feel like a rattle snake. It's something they tend to grow out of. Just defensive :) |

Snakes can feel very vulnerable while they're eating as they can't really run and hide like they normally would if they were scared. It might be that while he was eating he felt threatened by you watching even though normally he'd be fine. Of course it could also be that in the excitement of coiling he was just generally worked up and the tail-rattling was part of that. Nothing to worry about in any case, I'm sure :) |

Lol I wasn't touching him etc just put him in to his feeding tub. He did it several times whilst eating and digesting. I normally watch him jus to make sure all is ok as it's his second small mouse |

Kali often rattles her tail while she eats. I think it's because they're quite vulnerable when they're eating and it makes them nervous so they act defensively and rattle their tail to keep predators away. |

My corn has only rattled his/her tail once , my fault cause I lifted the hide to get them out and him/ her must have been sleeping. |
