Silly little Storm seems to only want to eat once every 2 weeks, if that he still not had a shed with me, dont know how long its been since his last one, i have asked for the date, but dont get an answer from rep shop In the time i have had him, he is still only 7g I have gave him a pep talk, didnt do anything, last week warmed and brained pinkie, thought i had it sussed as he ate right away but again back to ignoring food tonight Told him he needs to get big enough to eat the cat, maybe that put him off his food......? |

Oh deary-well My big girl Gertrude eats weaner rats every 4-6 days BUT Wilbur only eats every other week or so maybe its a man thing? I also found my hoggies ate better and more regular once I gave them some Repticard to burrow in-itlooks and behaves much like leaf litter,so I guess it mimics their natural habitat. If you search Repticard you should find it-they sent me a free sample too I mixed it with their Lignocel as its not as absorbent/spot cleanable. If he is an irregular feeder you could try 'scenting' his food-a bit yuck rub it on a dead frog I also give my boy Wilbur rat pups/fluffs-better food value than mice-that way I don't worry too much over his fussyness Hope this helps with the tricky little blighter-possibly its his turn to 'mess with your head' |

sorry to hear he's not a good eater, they are all so different. Does anyone breed frogs for snakes to eat? |

Nooooo they would give him indigestion And i have been trying to find frozen frogs online, and am going to try fish shops for frogs legs. I did tell the OH we had to go up to the loch to go frog hunting with the frozen pinkies, catch a frog and rub the pinkies on it lol he was not amused, this weekend he will realise i am quite serious, but he will have to catch it, by the time i struggled to bend it would be long gone And he can tunnel is the aspen no bother, maybe because he is so small |

Male hoggies are infamous for feeding problems. Ours is giving us grief again at the moment. He last ate on 8/8 and then went into blue. He shed a week or 2 back and has refused 3 meals since so far and is looking really skinny. Fussy little beggars! Ours goes into hiding quite a while before actually showing obvious signs of going into blue, and then takes aaaaages to shed compared with the corns.
We had got his feeding sorted, originally having to tub him to get him to eat, then discovering leaving a nice hot mouse on top of his hide and leaving him to it worked really well. Up until a month ago lol...
Good luck with Storm! |

Hero now eats weekly but only at a push. He will only feed on my hand in the kitchen with a hot mouse. As a rule hoggies eat little and often but not hero lol. Hero was 6 months and 9g when I got him he gained a couple but then fasted for 6 weeks and went back down to 9g 18months on with a 16 week fast in the middle he's weighing in at 100g :) and eats 5 weeks out if six. In that time he has only shed 4 times. I think they shed less that corns x |

Just an idea I read about - hoggies in nature eat frogs, and other small reptiles. Could you maybe save some of Fudges shed skin, and rub it/ or wrap it around the pinkie? It will make it smell different, and just might get him interested more. I suppose you'd have to keep the skin in the freezer, to stop it going off... |

Ooooh just remembered - egg white is supposed to be excellent for scenting for non-feeding hoggies... hmm, not sure if it's supposed to be raw or a sliver of cooked though? But that really funny you tube viv was of a hoggy going mad for a cooked egg - do you know the one I mean SBB? |

Me again - it's definitely boiled egg white ;)
Also someone just suggested a sliver of trout to someone elsewhere who's got a non-feeding hogg. Grrrr Ours refused again last night, don't know what's got into him, may have to go boil an egg lol! |
