Had bit of a shock this morning. I went and uncovered the guinea pigs this morning. Opened the door of Eli and Teds hutch and there was poor Ted, just laying there. Sadly he passed away during the night . Totally unexpected. He was not an old guinea pig just 3-4 years old and had been in good health or he had appeared to be. Poor Eli is now on his own again. I am hoping that with extra cuddles he will be ok by himself as he is a very old chap, now 8 years old coming up for 9 and I do not think he would appreciate a young one chasing him about. You had an amazing character, very cheeky, R.I.P Ted xx. |

My sister has said that if Eli pines to much he can go and stay with her in her guinea pig room. She has an elderly guinea pig and he could live next door to him. Will have to see how things go. He has just finished his salad and left nothing so obviously not missing Ted at the moment. |

oh, poor you- and poor Ted- I'm so sorry :-( we lost John a month ago, from a bad infection, and then Tufty, our little girl piggy last week, like yours, completely unexpectedly- and not from old age. She was only 4. They're such funny little things, they seem so hardy, but really don't cope well in very hot weather. A few years ago when we had quite a large clan of pigs (due to some numpty making a mistake when sexing babies to split in separate housing, ahem) we lost three in one day- it was early in the summer, the hutches had been put outside the shed ready to open up to the garden run, and there was this freak super-hot sunny day. The hutches were in a position where they were facing south (bad move, I know now) and it was just too much for the pigs. They all had plenty of water, but I think that inside the closed-in bit of the hutch, even though it was shaded, it was just too hot. Their bodies just aren't very efficient at cooling down.. it's so so sad losing piggies, they'e such brilliant little characters; so sociable and funny.. our garden is far too quiet now there's only Pie left. ( he hasn't been out onto the grass since she died, I think he's missing her) :-( you have my sympathy xxx |
and you thought there was no such thing as a stupid question....

1.2.0 corns: captain haddock, sharon the tiddler and Darling Debbie. plus 0.2.0 cali kings: spot and Numpty... not forgetting the delightful Miss Lovely-Gonzalez-La-Poop apricot pueblan milk snake, and we all miss the Lodger who thought he was a cobra....
