Hi,
Well, I've been very busy working on my latest project.
You may remember my custom viv stack build from a couple of years ago, well Omen the ATB outgrew his viv so I decided to rediscover my viv building skills.
I was very limited on space, so even though the new one isn't much wider, it is deeper and taller. I used the same building method as before, this is how it looked at the beginning of last week -

Beginning of this week, almost finished -

And the final product after de-barking a load of branches and with some nice big plants, I'm quite happy with he rainforest feel -

My motto, if you run out of floor space, build up (Omens old viv now on the wardrobe, I almost died getting it up there) -

Omen exploring -

His new viv is 77x61x90, which gave me plenty of space to play with. I just hope Omen uses it all, instead of sitting in his water bowl 24/7... which is also bigger now.
Phase 2 of the project involves Omens old viv becoming a crestie viv and with the spare wood I built another crestie viv.
This is one reason why no new animals have been bought this year and for the foreseeable future, the non existent budget has gone, lol.
Best bit is seeing the finished project with the animal in it, see how long it takes him to muck it all up, the cleaning bit I don't like as much lol.
Thanks for looking. |

Wow, very impressive (but must be a pig to clean!). Do ATB's require high humidity? Just wondering how you prevent mould on the branches (would really love to put some branches in our CRB viv). |

Yes it does need to be humid, but I never had a problem with mold in his old viv, this one will need spraying a lot more often with the increased airflow, but I will see.
As for cleaning, I think I can get away with leaving the branches in and clean them where they are, take the plants out to clean and there's not much on the floor so the substrate is easy to remove. There's still plenty of room to maneuver for cleaning even with the branches there. Then every few months do a re-design. |

Thanks, I think we may try a branch then. We've got a jungle vine kind of sticking up in the middle and she loves climbing on that and in her plants on the viv sides, but would like something a bit more stable as she grows :) |
