Hi all. I fed 2 mice to Fuzzy on Monday. Since then she's done poos every day since Wednesday. Tonight I had to clean two poos and she had done what I assume was a wee (white in colour) which she was sat in!is this normal or does it indicate a potential problem. Would appreciate any advice as most articles I have read indicate one poop per meal. Apologies for the formatting, posted from rubbish phone! |

Has Fuzzy only recently gone up a size? And when you say 2 mice do you mean 2 fluffs? It certainly is strange that she's pooing every day instead of just the once, unless this is her first feed of 2. Is all of it poo? Remember she's probably drinking a lot because of the heat. Do the poos all look 'normal'?
I wouldn't worry too much yet. Feed her as usual when she's due and see what happens. IF this continues then it may be worth looking into.

Hi Kellog....thanks for your response. She's 3 years old but I've only had her for six weeks (Bought from local reptile centre). I feed her 1 medium mouse on a Monday, then 2 the next Monday in alternation. She's always done one poo on a Wednesday then one on Thursday. It's only this week that she's done lots of poos and even did one this morning (albeit a small one). There is definately more white in the poo, I take it this is because she is drinking more? The viv temps are normally 31 at hot and 27 at cold end during the day, reducing to 21 at hot end and 18 at the cold at night. However during this hot weather I have not been able to get the viv below 25 at night. She also seems a lot more stressed, rattling her tail when I go into the viv, and a lot more tense when I handle her. I always leave it 48 hours following feeding to handle her btw. I'm going to give the viv a complete clean out, disenfect and replace all substrate tomorrow. Whilst I do this Fuzzy will no doubt go and hide in her favourite pillow case. I do hope she's ok.

Hmmm I am not an expert but I have read a lot of forums lol
I would say the temps were high. I aim for 27/22.
Also if fully grown at 3 yrs i think you are feeding a lot too. Mine gets one large every 12 days. |

Hmmm, does sound a bit odd, I think a thorough clean out would certainly be a good idea. The white stuff is urates (wee) so not unusual for her to be doing that a bit more in this weather. Hot end should ideally be around the 28 mark, and really should not go over 30 as a maximum so I would reduce the temps a bit.
As for the tail rattling, if you've had her 6 weeks has she shed at all yet? It may be she is going into blue and wants to be left alone... |

Thanks for the advice guys... much appreciated.
I have reduced the viv temp accordingly.
Got her out tonight, and she did a little tail rattle before I picked her up.
I looked at her closely and it's hard to say but her usual red eyes might look a little duller than usual. I've heared that being an amel it's harder to tell??
According to the shop she had shed @ 2-3 weeks before I got her so it's probably 8-9 weeks since last shed.
It's her usual feeding day tomorrow @ 6pm so shall offer her one mouse but won't be worried if she doesn't take it. In terms of the mouse size their bodies are @ 2 inches long. Is that a medium? This is the feeding regeim the reptile shop said to use. I assume she's fully grown... she's around 3 foot long.
As always any feedback will be much appreciated. Sorry if I seem a little clueless but am new to keeping a snake and want to do what's best for my lovely pet. The one thing I have learned how to do really well is clean up poo lol!!

It's not as easy with an Amel but you should notice her going dull. She may shed because she's grown or sometimes it's because they have a small injury, such as from nose rubbing, that needs healing. My male shed every month while he was nose rubbing during mating season. I would offer food as normal, some are quite happy to eat while others won't. You will get to know all her little ways after a while, there are no set rules. At 3 foot long she's probably not fully grown, again no set rules to how long they will get, 5ft and more is common. |

Hi Lee
It's interesting that you mention "nose rubbing" as recently she has been doing that to me when I handle her, especially to the palm of my hand. She also tightens around my wrist and you can see her muscles constricting.
I have also thought that perhaps she might be looking a little duller but was thinking it is just my imagination!
Well she's curled up snug in her cave at the hot end at the moment and temp is down to 22...first time in two weeks due to the hot weather! |

Hi all.... just an update.
Offered Fuzzy her usual tasty morsel tonight however having given it a good sniff she didn't go for it.
I shall not handle now and shall wait to see what transpires over the next few days.
Should I put a damp towel in the viv?
Cheers

You could do or get some moss in a hide on the cool side, even putting a small bowl of water in the hot end will generate a fair bit of humidity, esp in this heat! |

Hi all
Just an update..... She's hiding away in her cave at the hot end. I haven't disturbed her and shall wait accordingly. Will pop a small damp towel in tomorrow as no way of getting moss currently. I take it I need to change the towel every day so as not to harbour any bacteria?
Cheers for all your advice folks. |

Another update... tonight she's curled up in her cold end hide. Skin is looking very dull. Hopefully not long now! |

Hi all
6 days on and still no shed. She's still abnormally reclusive for her. I did get her out on Sunday to have a proper look at her and she rattled her tail once she realised she was going to be picked up but as always was fine once in my hands although very determined in looking for somewhere to hide! Her colours appear a little brighter. She refused last Monday's meal but when offered one tonight struck hard at it from within her cave, taking it back in and devouring in record time. I've got the viv temps at 29 day and 20 night (although it rarely gets down to 20 at the moment). Making sure water is clean and there is a damp towel in there too. It's been a long time now.
Does anyone elses take this long? (assuming she is about to shed of course).
Will be glad of any advice or reassurance.

Well... Re. previous post I wrote too soon.
This morning = shed skin + fuzzy relaxing under towel! Eyecaps and tail tip are off.
Can't handle her now until Wednesday night due to feeding last night... boo!"!
Very relieved!! |

That's good to hear, they are all different and some take a little longer than others but they all get there in the end. |
